Moving Home? Here’s How You Should Pack!

Moving home is always going to be stressful, especially if you are moving during the pandemic. However, there are plenty of things you can do that make the process a little easier, such as asking for help from those around you, ensuring your new home is ready for you before you move, and getting a head start on packing.

With that in mind, here are some tips on packing up your belongings!

  1. Don’t delay.

Although packing can be tiresome, don’t underestimate the amount of time that it will take you to pack up your home. You need to ensure your items are packed correctly and will not break during the move. You also need to make sure you have enough boxes and materials to transport your items in. If you rush this process, you could end up damaging your belongings or leaving behind something important.

  1. Pack the essentials separately

Whilst some items may stay in boxes for several days and weeks as you unpack, others you will need access to early on – such as any kitchen equipment, your laptop, your TV and any medication. Therefore, you should ensure these items are last in the moving fan – meaning that they will be the first of the van. Store them together in a clearly labelled box, so that you can find them quickly and without hassle!

  1. Pack a room at a time

If you don’t pack with a plan in mind, items can get jumbled together or misplaced very easily. Therefore, it only makes sense to pack up one room at a time – that way, everything you need for your dining room will be in one place. You should also begin by packing up the least used items of furniture (such as decorative artwork) first, as opposed to bulkier items such as your chairs – as you will still need something to sit on before the move!

  • Have all the materials you need on hand

When packing your home, you’ll need to get your hands on the following items:

  • Bubble wrap
  • Styrofoam
  • Wire cables
  • Boxes (Different sizes/strengths)
  • Packing Tape
  • Labels
  • Markers
  • Suitcases (Storing clothes)
  • Vacuum packs
  • Bin bags

Although the above list is by no means exhaustive, they will make the process of packing much easier as you will be able to ensure your items are stored safely and will not be damaged during the move. Labelling boxes is key to minimising any confusion when it comes to packing – as it can otherwise be easy to forget which box is which!
