Top Tips For Moving During The Pandemic

Moving is a complicated, tough process at the best of times, whether you’re managing it on your own or hiring professionals to help you. All that moving stress is made even worse if you need to move during the current pandemic. Whether you’re moving to the countryside or the city, you’re probably worrying whether you can move at all or whether it’s safe to do so.

Proceed With Caution

The main thing to keep in mind is that reality that we are in the middle of a global pandemic, so being careful is crucial. You can go ahead with your move, but you must proceed with caution, just like you do with everything else at the moment. Apply the same level of attentiveness to your move as you do to the rest of your life.

Manage Your Expectations

Before COVID-19, it would have been fine to welcome lots of movers, family members, and friends into your home to help you with your move. However, now it’s a good idea to avoid doing this. Social distancing means we should avoid crowds and stay at least six feet away from other people. That’s hard to do if the house is full.

Limit exposure. For example, if you hire a moving crew of three people, two can come in the house and one can stay with the truck the whole time. Limit the number of people from your household who are around. Send the kids to the babysitter and try to have as few of you as possible there for the move to limit exposure. This is safer for you and your movers.

Try to stay as far away from your movers as you can and don’t shake hands with them. Make sure your movers can easily wash their hands if they ask to do so. If they’re prepared, they should arrive with their own supply of face masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers, but you should have your own ready to use.

Ask if you can tip via a credit card instead of cash, or ask if a service like Venmo is an option. This means you don’t have to handle cash.

Ask Questions

Before you even think about hiring the moving company, find out what changes to protocols they have made due to Coronavirus. How often are they checking the health of their crew members? Are they using supplies like face masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers during a move? A good moving company, like Leon Moving LLC, should be happy to answer these questions for you.

Most movers should be closely monitoring their workers in order to keep them and customers safe and well. If anyone is showing symptoms, such as a high temperature or coughing, don’t allow them in your home. Look for a mover who will contact you a few days before your move to check whether anyone in your household has been exposed to the virus, is waiting for test results, or is showing symptoms. It’s important to communicate openly and honestly with your moving company, and expect them to communicate openly with you.
