What Are The Biggest Issues That Come With Moving House?

Although overall the idea of moving home is a positive one, there will always be some issues that come up during the planning stages and the move itself that makes this a much more stressful time than it needs to be. Many say that moving house is one of the most stressful times in any life, and this could well have become a self-fulfilling prophecy by now; people expect it to be stressful and therefore don’t particularly look more closely at ways it can be made easier.

The truth is that moving house is only as stressful as you make it, and putting plans in place ahead of time will always make things easier. Here are some of the biggest issues that come with moving house and how to overcome them.

Finding A New Home

Once you have decided to move, you’ll either need to give notice to your landlord or put your current property on the market. This is the easy part. The hard part comes with looking for a new place to live. You might not initially think that this is much of a challenge, but it can be hard. You might, for example, find that there aren’t very many properties that will suit you, or perhaps you’ll see that there are dozens that would be ideal, making the final choice even harder.

The best thing you can do is to engage a realtor to help you. Give them all the information about what you want and how much you intend to spend, and they will do the searching for you. Since they know the market better than anyone, you can be quite sure they will find something that you will enjoy living in.

Moving Your Possessions

After you have sorted through your possessions and packed them up, you’ll need to work out how to get them from one property to the next. Trying to do this yourself is going to be stressful. You’ll need to be able to move large items of furniture safely without causing yourself any injuries and without damaging the items themselves. As well as that, you’ll have to hire a large truck which you might not be confident driving. And you’ll need to speak to family and friends to help you as this is not something you can do on your own.

Or there is another way; find a good moving company to help you instead. All you’ll need to do is give the movers instructions about where things need to go and ensure that everything is packed and ready for them (and some will even do this for you if you want them to and are willing to pay more). Having excellent movers to help you makes everything a lot less stressful.

Running Out Of Time

No matter how many times you have moved in the past, making sure you have enough time to get everything done is an issue that most people will come across. There are several different deadlines to consider when moving, and each one needs to be factored into the overall timescale.

The best thing you can do in this case is to overestimate the amount of time you’ll need to get ready, and the amount of time you’ll need at the other end. If that means sitting surrounded by boxes because you’re ready a few days ahead of time at one end, and it means having some extra time off work because you unpacked quickly at the other end, that’s far better than rushing and stressing because you ran out of time.
