On occasion, I love inviting all my friends and family around for a house family. It’s a fun way to catch up with people who you haven’t seen in awhile because of life commitments. Whether you want to sit down and have discussions over drinks or dance the night away in your living room, it can be great fun. But, first you need to get organised and get ready for an awesome house party. Here are my tips on doing just that.
Invite Your Guests
Usually, I just send people a notification that I’m having a house party on Facebook or Twitter. But, you may want to be careful with this idea. Particularly if, like some people I know, you have fifty thousand friends online. Probably not the best idea to invite everyone. Instead, you could send an e-vite by email. That way you save on postage, and you get to let the people know about it who you want to come. It’s easy, it’s fast, and you can have fun designing the invite. If you’re into that sort of thing!
Get The Kids Out The House
You’ve got two choices when it comes to having kids and throwing a party. Either you can include them in your plans. Usually, this means that upstairs is for the kids and downstairs is for the adults. The advantage of this is that people who can’t find a babysitter still get to come over, but it gives you a little more work to do. The alternate option is that you can get rid of the kids for the night. Either, send them off to a slumber party at one of their friends houses or beg a relative to take them. A quick “I’ll owe you one” should do the trick here.
Sort Out Entertainment
Do you need entertainment arranged for a house party? Not always. Sometimes, making sure you have ten or twenty bottles of wine in provides all the entertainment you need. But, if you want your guests to have some fun you could buy some fireworks. This is a particularly good idea if it’s a family party and you have kids you need to keep amused. That’s going to provide a whole night of fun as you listen to your tone-deaf friends try and carry a tune. But for goodness sake don’t forget to buy alcohol otherwise it will be unbearable.
Don’t forget even if you are buying fireworks it’s a good idea to arrange backup entertainment. You can never rely on the weather to play nice.
Cater To Your Guests
Lastly, you need to think about all the different needs of your guests. For instance, you might have guests who are vegetarian. If you’re buying food, just lay out a buffet. That way, people can choose what they want to eat, and you can put out a veggie option. The same goes for gluten-free people and those who are tee total.
