Money Saving Repairs: Spring/Summer Checklist

Well, it looks as if spring is almost upon us – and I couldn’t be happier! I love the winter in the build up to Christmas, but January and February have to be the worst times of the year for the weather. And, of course, it’s during this period that many of the problems in your home start to develop.

Spring is a time for cleaning, of course – but it should also be a time to repair the areas of your home that have taken a beating over the cold winter months. Here’s a little checklist for you – follow it, and you should save yourself some money in the long-term!

Gutter repair

Plastic guttering suffers a lot during the cold and wet months of winter. It expands, contracts, gets full of debris – and by springtime, it needs a good clean. It might set you back a hundred bucks or so for a professional company to come and do the job. But, that’s money well spent in my eyes. Trapped water can end up seeping into your home, and if it ends up in your foundations, it’s going to cost a fortune to fix. In fact, it will make that $100 look like a drop in the ocean. Get your guttering looked at as soon as the weather turns and you will avoid a lot of these issues. Try these guys and see what to expect – www.tandcgutterco.com.

Roofing

All that wind and rain during the winter can also take its toll on your roof. Tiles could go missing, holes can appear, and it can all add up to an expensive repair job – if you leave it. Because they are so exposed to the elements, your roof needs a lot of care and attention. Even the smallest crack can turn into a major issue – and it can happen fast, too. Call out some roofers as soon as spring arrives and the small price you pay will save you mega bucks if there is more severe damage.

Aircon and heating

Your heating system will have been on full blast all winter, so it’s worth making sure it’s in good shape once the warmer days draw in. Get a reputable company in, as the work can be delicate and complicated. Look at the Better Business Bureau to check reviews. These guys score well, for example – www.kmahomeservices.com. It’s also important to look at your aircon unit. It’s likely to have been out of action for the past four or five months, And, if you want to save money during the summer, now is the time to get maintenance.

Ventilation

Another area that suffers from clogging is your ventilation. Although it seems like a small job, it’s essential to keeping your home cool. And, any blockages are going to cause major issues. For straightforward vents – in your bathroom, say – then all you need is a can of compressed air. More complicated units will need a professional eye, however.

Once you have done all your repairs, you can concentrate on the next stage – spring cleaning! Good luck, and don’t forget – make sure you fix everything well and it will save you money!
