Improving Curb Appeal

First off, you’ll need to improve your curb appeal if it’s not so desirable. This is the first thing people notice about your home. You want it to invite them in, not scare them away! To do this, there are a number of things you can do:

  • Get green fingered. Start gardening by weeding and pruning the garden, then adding lovely low maintenance plants that will bloom all year round.
  • You can add water features, bird boxes, and other ornaments. Not only do these look pretty, they attract wildlife too.
  • Replace your front door. If it’s looking old and battered from one too many knocks, you can repaint it, replace the hardware, or simply buy a new one.

Renovating The Kitchen

Now, the room that most people look at first when buying is the kitchen. Even if you’re not planning on selling anytime soon, the kitchen is the most important room to renovate. There are plenty of styles you can go for. For example, you could give it a rustic feel by using lots of natural materials, or a modern feel by using marble in black and white.

If you ever applied for a home mortgage through Dixons, they probably gave you advice on different rooms and what is desirable to a buyer. They know the worst thing you can do with your kitchen is have it looking outdated. If you can’t afford a full on renovation, replace bits one at a time. You could replace your cabinets one month, and your floor the next.

People like to see a lot of space in the kitchen, so ensure that there are plenty of surfaces to prepare food on. The kitchen is also used for entertaining and eating, so bear that in mind when making your renovation!

Tweaking The Bathroom

The bathroom is usually the second most important room that people look at. Even if it’s small, you can still make it look desirable by using fresh, crisp colours to brighten the place up and make it look bigger. Think of spas, and how they use certain colours and materials to make rooms like this relaxing. You should do the same! Avoid garish colours in the bathroom. Think relaxing and tranquil.

The Bedrooms and Living Room

Now that you’ve done the most important rooms in the house, you can afford to express your personality a little in the bedrooms and living room. Bear in mind that the bedroom shouldn’t be too colourful, as this can make it too stimulating for you to sleep! The living room can be decorated any way you like, but don’t spend through the nose to make it look bold and bright. If you do, it’s unlikely you’ll make your money back when it comes to sell, as not everybody will share your tastes.
