Restyling a room doesn’t mean having to hire an interior designer or cost a fortune. There are a few simple steps you can take to make it feel like a totally different room.
Empty the Room
Start off by clearing everything away so you can see the room empty again. It’s easier to work from a clean sheet than try to see round things that are already there.
Furniture
Whether you like designer furniture or second-hand bargains, the furniture makes or breaks a room. They can have a big impact on the style and look of the space, and it’s vital you get them right. A new sofa or coffee table can change the room dramatically. If you don’t want to buy new, try painting or spray painting your old furniture to give it a new lease of life.
Re-shuffle
Moving around your furniture may seem like an obvious step, but most people don’t even consider it when they start to get bored of a room. A new layout can make it feel like a totally different space. And you can always move it back later if you’re not happy with it. Ensure that you have someone to help you with the larger furniture though!
Flowers
Bringing flowers and foliage into our homes is nothing new, but it can be quickly forgotten in a busy lifestyle. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes with a vase of beautiful blooms on display. Alternatively, take some clippings from your garden for seasonal variety.
New Lights
Lighting is another vital aspect to home decor. Maintaining a light and fresh look to your home can be a tricky balance. There are a variety of ways you can achieve the perfect ambience though. Wall lights work well in smaller rooms as well as table lamps. But a large statement piece hanging in the middle of the room creates an impressive focal point.
Lick Of Paint
If your walls are looking tired and mucky, a new lick of paint can really brighten the place up. Stick to a similar colour if you don’t want to change the feel of the room, or go for something totally different to really mix things up.
New Rug
If your flooring is looking a bit worn, it can be expensive to replace the carpets. Instead, try a new rug to cover the old floors. You can find them in any colour or pattern, whether you want an antique looking tribal mat or luxurious fur throw.
New Curtains
Curtains are another soft furnishing that are often underestimated. New nets or cosy drapes can dramatically change the feel of a room. Or change completely and try modern blinds or shutters.
Accessories
A large coffee table or mantelpiece can look pretty dull when empty. Decorate them with your favourite pieces, whether it’s a pretty book or scented candle. Showcase your beloved possessions rather than keep them tucked in cupboards and drawers. You can always swap them around with the seasons to keep them room looking current all year round.
