A Strategy for Managing your Redecorating Plans

A Strategy for Managing your Redecorating Plans

Redecorating your home is usually one of the most therapeutic experiences they you will go through; there’s nothing like ridding your home of that creaky floorboard and carpet you always hated. However, what can you do about the potential damage that you could be causing the furniture that you want to keep? And how can you prevent your plans from being flawed? Here are a few simple tips and tricks on how to manage your plans whilst going through the turmoil that redecorating can cause.

Budgeting

One of the first things that you should do when considering the redecoration of your home is to create a budget. A budget can help you sustain your plans throughout the design and decoration process; if you decide to go ahead with your decorating and you haven’t formed a budget you may find that your money won’t stretch far enough and that you run out of resources very quickly.

If you make the wise choice of budgeting first, ensure that you cover things such as the expense of labourers or anybody that you may hire, building materials and the time that it will take for the project to be completed.

Communication

Maintaining communication with people that you are hiring or working alongside is essential for you to understand how much longer the redecorating may take and how much more you need to spend to complete the restoration. If you communicate effectively and plan properly there is a chance that you could finish your project earlier than you expected to as you are discussing and dealing with problems as they arise.

Protecting your Possessions

When you are decorating your home it’s likely that there will be all manner of particles in the air, an example would be paint or dust. These particles can damage your furniture through staining and causing the fabrics to smell, you can prevent your furniture from accidental damage caused by its destructive environment through the use of old bed sheets or plastic covers.

By covering your furniture you are also ensuring that nothing has to be replaced due to setbacks caused by the decorating process.

Safety

If you are working or living in an environment that is undergoing reconstruction there are safety regulations that you should take into account and adhere to. Spending a large span of time in an environment with particles in the air can cause health complications such as breathing issues.

Measures that you can take to rid yourself of this problem include air purifiers, dehumidifiers and dust masks or other respiratory tools.

Dehumidifiers and air purifiers work by taking in the surrounding air and passing over cool coils, the water that is in the air becomes condensation as it passes over the coils and so it drips into a removable plastic container in the bottom of the dehumidifier. The air that the moisture has been taken from is then reheated and emptied back into the room; ready for the process to begin again.

Air purifiers on the other hand do not remove moisture or humidity from the air, instead they remove small particles of dust and dirt from the air by taking it in and passing it through dense filters. Some filters are pleated as the larger surface area allows for more particles to be filtered at one time; however air purifiers that don’t have washable filters are likely to break due to the filter becoming full.

Some purifiers contain UV lights as this can kill certain microorganisms, which prevents viruses and bacteria from contaminating your home. Avoid purifiers that claim to produce ozone as it hasn’t been proven as an effective method of sterilising the air, and may instead create harmful gases within your house as the atoms that they release are incredibly unstable and could react with other chemicals in the air.

There are various other methods of managing your home whilst going through the process of redecorating, for more information you can enquire at your local DIY store or get in touch with a design specialist.
