Things You’ll Want To Avoid As You Get Older

We’re all getting older, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. I know I’m still young now, but I would be foolish to ignore the fact my body will age each and every year. There are so many things that age will change about my body, that I’m taking the time now to consider the best way to look after it. After all, I want it to feel good and look good for as long as possible!

The biggest changes that happened to my body were at puberty. Adolescence sees the body grow, develop and change dramatically to ready it for adulthood and childbearing. After this comes childbearing itself. The hormones released during pregnancy significantly alter the body again. While many things will return to normal after childbirth, there will always be those tell-tale signs that you’re a gorgeous mommy.

Sometimes illnesses and injuries can change your body too. It’s really important to get back on track quickly so you can continue living life to the full. You may need to make a few changes here and there, but it’ll be worth the effort.

In middle age, the menopause will make more dramatic changes to your body. And it’s at this time that you really must be on high alert for future problems occurring. The hormones change your body again, but this time, it’s a lack of hormones that can cause the problems. The hair thins so you need to be using good shampoos and conditioners to protect and thicken your tresses.

The skin will start to lose its elasticity too. There are so many anti-wrinkle creams out there now. Keeping your skin hydrated on the outside is good. But you need to remember to keep it hydrated on the inside by drinking water. And smoking now while you are young can cause those wrinkles and signs of aging to be much worse when you reach menopause!

The hormone loss can also cause serious problems with your spine, bones and posture. A diet rich in calcium now can help reduce the risk of degenerative diseases later. Keep up your calcium intake with cheese, milk and yogurt to help avoid problems with your bones. Spondylosis and arthritic conditions are quite common as we reach older age. Wear and tear on the body can’t really be prevented. But if you start to suffer pain in your legs or back, it’s worth seeing a doctor to get the correct diagnosis.

Many of us are worrying about things like dementia in older age too. This is a dreadful condition that can be heartbreaking for the family too. Some people say that continuing activities that we enjoy while we’re young can help stave off dementia. Pick mentally stimulating hobbies like playing musical instruments or doing crosswords. And it’s important to keep your social life busy. Lots of interaction with other people can help you feel young for life! Isolation is a very real problem for the elderly, so do your best to join groups and keep up with your friends, especially after your family has grown up.

It can feel like old age is a really long way off sometimes. But I know that taking care of my body right now is the best things I can do to prepare for it. Don’t fear old age – embrace it!
