Next, using darker colours and ambiance. You’ve probably heard before how important the use of colour is in changing the mien of a home. You’ve probably also heard that whites and light neutrals are important for getting more light into the house. I know I’m the minority in this, but I totally disagree! While whites and greys can make a room feel larger, using more subdued colours for your paint jobs creates drama, and a potent, relaxing ambiance. Furthermore, when you’re using darker colours for your walls, the way daylight hits it will naturally draw attention to single pieces of furniture or décor pieces.

Adding a new garden feature is another cheap way to make your home look and feel more lavish. There are dozens of truly gorgeous garden features which have the power to make your whole home feel more elegant and lavish. A koi pond or a small fountain will make for a nice, calming detail. A tasteful Roman statue can also be a good idea, though it may take you a while to find one within your budget. Installing a pool is probably out of the question, but you can still find some high-quality and affordable hot tubs around. Budget statement walls are a brilliant way to make a home feel more luxurious and remain within your budget. When you cover all the walls of a home in a repeating pattern, it can feel a little too archaic and stuffy. However, having one in two bright colours on a single wall creates a powerful foil to the rest of the room, and looks way more expensive than it is! Simply find a colour that will look good against the given background, a stencil you like, and get to work. The result will be more potent than you’d expect!
