Tips For Clearing Some Space For The Holidays

Now we’re in September, it’s a good idea to start thinking about the holiday season – especially if you’re a parent to young children! You’ve got decor to think about, presents to buy, festive activities to plan, and somehow you’ve got to fit a bit of sleep in there as well. It’s a lot to do, so why not clear out some space while you’ve got plenty of time ahead of you? The more room you have to work with, the less mess the holidays will bring you. Here are our tips.

Think About Where You Want to Hang Decorations

It’s not just Christmas you’ll want to decorate for. Halloween and Thanksgiving are on the way as well. If you want to hang up skeletons and pumpkins, or create a warm and cozy space filled with gourds and red leaves, think about where these decorations are going to go. How much space do you have to create your holiday paradise? Because tidying up and/or clearing out these areas need to be top of the priority list.

Make Window Space

You’re likely going to be hanging up a lot of decorations by the window, so why not clear some space around them now? Tie back the curtains, make sure the sill is clean and tidy, and even give the glass pane a good wipe down too. If you like spraying fake snow onto them, make sure there are no spots left over from last year!

Choose Your Tree Spot

The Christmas tree is the main event. Choose where it’s going to go as soon as you’ve got a chance to. If it always goes in the same space, but it’s a little bit awkward and hard to access, think about moving it this year. Areas like fireplaces are good for featuring a tree, either to the left or right, as these features already act like focal points. And the more central your tree, the more you can decorate it! Clear some space now to see what floor area you’re working with and if a tree would fit.

Rearrange the Kitchen

You’re going to be using the kitchen a lot over the holiday season. As such, you may want to rearrange it to make it easier to use for the holiday period. Make sure your bigger pots and pans are within easy reach, make sure all your ingredients are at the front of the fridge and cupboards, and make sure the blender and other bulky appliances have been lifted down from the top of the cupboard. Get it all out now, arrange it in a neat order, and you’ll barely need to lift a finger to curate the kitchen around you over the coming months.

The holiday season requires a lot of patience. If you want to celebrate it in style this year, get your prep in as early as you can. Start now!
