How to Update to Modern Decor

Your home is a reflection of who you are. The best way to improve your home is to let your unique interests shine through in the décor and choices made throughout the home, including even the outdoor spaces. Think first about what who you are as a person. Are you high energy? Then a more modern look might be appropriate, with splashes of red or orange set against urban gray flooring or wall color. If you are more laid back, then a typical choice of colors would be blue or green or other colors found in nature. While the modern look might include minimalist office desks, high-backed chairs and edgy furniture, the laid back might prefer over-stuffed recliners.

Bean bags are a new fashion trend and are an exception to the rule, as they are suitable either to the modern edgy look or to the laid back natural look. These are not yesterday’s bean bag chairs, with deflated filling and single color design. The trendiest bean bags come in all designs and fabric choices. They can be covered in a soft arctic plush or in neon zigzag denim. The filling is comfortable, sturdy and durable.

Another new trend is in the outdoor spaces of the home. These are now considered extensions of the interior space to be furnished in a consistent style, drawing the inside to the outside. Simple patios of the past are now doubled or quadrupled in size, having filled up with comfortable seating, lights and plants. Rather than a simple barbecue, there are homes that feature entire outdoor kitchens with a covered oven, sink and cupboards. Even the once ignored garden sheds can be turned into an extension of the style seen within the house. The shed might feature sleek modernistic lines and a continuation of the color scheme previously chosen. Alternatively, the shed can be themed to a tiny country cottage in its own right. Let the shed serve the prosaic purpose of storing tools and equipment while at the same time being a work of art, an extension of the décor within the house, and an expression of your individuality.
