While there are so many reasons why you might be feeling tired, there are also so many excuses and reasons why you might ignore it. It is easy to put tiredness down to work, to life events, to kids and to not getting enough sleep, to not doing enough exercise and to not eating right. All of which are valid reasons but if you are experiencing ongoing fatigue then it’s something you shouldn’t ignore.

Don’t just try and mask the tiredness with stimulants such as coffee, green tea or energy drinks to get through the day as all these stimulants do is give you a few minutes of nervous energy, but ultimately you will crash and burn in the end. Try to get to the root of the problem and go from there.

You need to make sure you are getting the right nutrients from vitamins, minerals, enzymes, electrolytes, and anti-oxidants to get your energy by eating fruits and raw vegetables. When your bowels are weak, your body holds on to too much waste which can cause bloat, weight gain, and fatigue. In this article, we will look at what other factors can contribute to ongoing fatigue.

Dehydration

If you’re not drinking enough water, then the likelihood is that you will feel tired. Our bodies are made up of 70% water which we always need to replenish. Aim to drink one liter for every 40 pounds of your body weight and increase this if you are exercising, pregnant or breastfeeding.

Under or Overactive Thyroid

Your thyroid is responsible for your metabolic function, and if it does not receive the right nutrients it needs because of a poor diet, then it will not be able to produce the hormones necessary to function properly which will cause you fatigue.

Not Enough Iron

If you don’t have enough iron in your diet, then less oxygen can get to your muscles and cells which causes fatigue. While there are many supplements you can get, try to fill up on iron-rich foods such as dark green leafy vegetables like kale, chard, and spinach.

Not Exercising Enough

It’s annoying, and it seems like a backward notion, but sitting and resting will only make you more tired. The more you sit, the more you hold on to carbon dioxide, and your lymph becomes congested and stagnant resulting in fatigue. Moving and keeping active gives us a lot more energy, even just going for walks is better than nothing, and you can start small and build up to more significant walks or move on to running or cycling. Getting into good habits is the first place to start.

Drinking Too Much Booze

Drinking too much alcohol can rob you of real energy. Going out and drinking is exhausting in itself, drinking, in general, makes you lazy and then drinking too much can also mean you overeat or eat foods which are no good for you, and then also it can affect your sleep too.

Too Distracted

With the internet and social media, there is no downtime. People are regularly checking their emails or social media, and this is not relaxing and can add to mental chaos. It’s a really bad idea to check your messages or be on your phone before bed as it can really impact your sleep. Put your phone away for about an hour before you want to go to bed or sleep. This will give you and your brain time to switch off and relax and wind down before bed.

Too Much On Your Mind

If your mind is racing before bed and you can’t relax, then you will probably have a rough sleep. Try writing what’s on your mind down before you go to bed to get it out of there. Then try some meditation or mindfulness to get you into a relaxed state and ready for sleep.

Remember, if you can get a good night’s sleep then this will make all the difference to how you feel in the morning. Try to keep your room dark and if you struggle to get up in the morning, invest in a natural light alarm clock. This will help you wake naturally rather than a horrible noise making you jump and disturbing you. If you’re struggling to sleep, try a beautiful essential oil diffuser and get aromas such as lavender which will help relax you and contribute to a peaceful night’s sleep.
