Where Are You Vacationing This Summer?

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Puerto Rico, The All-Star Island. All opinions are 100% mine.

Now that it’s finally getting warmer out, it’s time to start thinking about summer vacations. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love the local beach (which for us is often Ocean City, Maryland), I’m ready for a change this year. I want to see something I’ve never seen before. When you’re browsing Facebook or Instagram and see your friends’ photos of their getaway vacation, don’t despair! I, too, thought we’d never be able to afford to leave the country, or go to a resort, tropical island, etc.

It’s not as expensive as some people guess in their heads, and with the proper incentive, saving can be a cinch. My favorite (and the one we’re doing) is the 52-month money saving challenge. It’s ridiculously easy and affordable. The only caveat is you have to leave the money alone until it’s ready for your goal! You basically build on your dollar every week, adding an extra dollar.

It goes like this:

Week One: Save $1

Week Two: Save $2

Week Three: Save $3

By the end of 52 weeks (one year) you will have saved $1,378. That’s not including interest!

Now that we’ve got the financial “how” covered, let’s talk about where. Why not Puerto Rico? There are so many things to do. Your itinerary will be full from day 1, trying to cram it all in.

Here’s our itinerary:

  • The beach! My first and longest stop would be the beach. Puerto Rico has 270 miles of coastline and has been featured by the Travel Chanel’s Top 10 Beaches. Consider checking out Flamenco Beach in Culebra, which has been cited as one of the best beaches in the world!

  • Visit El Yunque, the US National Park Service’s only rain forest. You can climb to the clouds!

  • Check out the old world charm of San Juan, which is a must-see for history buffs.

  • Check out the Bioluminsecent bays where you can glow like an angel in the water. That would definitely going on Instagram.

  • Check out Puerto Rican gastronomy and Puerto Rico’s famous rum. Foodie delight!

  • Go to the Camuy caverns, which run through the 3rd largest subterranean river in the world.
