There’s nothing more fun and exciting than planning a kid’s birthday party. Of course the prospect of having to look after twenty children for the day may seem like an undesirable one. Yet, there’s no other event that embodies so much fun. And when you see your child laughing and giggling with all the other children it makes it well worth it. There are so many different themed parties that are suitable for kids; from superheroes to cowboys and cowgirls. Nevertheless, one theme that always seems to be a winner is a circus / carnival party. This article will help you with planning this event; from the invitations you give, to the balloons printed, to the games enjoyed and the food served. This is your ultimate guide.

Invitations

You can’t have a party if you haven’t invited anyone! And thus the first thing you need to do is make sure you buy invitations. Don’t just buy any old style of invitation. You want it to fit in with the theme of your party. Have a look for those with a picture of a clown on the front. It is always a nice idea to make the invitations with your child if you have the time to do so.

Balloons printed

No party is complete without balloons. This is a must-have decoration. Red and white are the most obvious colours when it comes to a circus theme and thus it’s a great idea to go for this colour scheme. Nonetheless, you should have your balloons printed too – or at least some of them. This is a lot more exciting than the plain versions. Get the balloons printed with a picture of a clown on or circus animals.

Creating the circus environment

You obviously need your venue to look like a circus. The best place to host this type of party is outdoors (weather permitting of course), so if you have a big garden space this will be ideal. You’ll need to set up a circus tent – this can be the ideal place to put the food and drinks being served. Decorate the tables with bright red tablecloths and toy clowns / stuffed animals. You can even create your own performance area or cages. Making a performance area can be as simple as using three hula hoops. You can make your cages out of boxes and put stuffed circus animals inside.

Food

The best circus delight has to be frozen bananas. After all, a banana is the circus monkey’s favourite treat! All you need to do is peel the banana, put a stick inside, freeze and serve. What about an elephant and monkey sandwich? This contains a peanut butter and banana filling – assured to be a hit with the kids. Aside from this, popcorn and pretzels are a circus favourite. And don’t forget about the circus themed birthday cake either! Make sure you have some nice treats for the adults too. Check out these delicious eastern standard pretzels for a great suggestion.

Activities

And last but not least you need to make sure you have plenty of fun and games for the children to enjoy. Hire somebody or ask a friend to do face painting for the party. All the children can have their faces painted as a clown. You can play Copy the Clown – essentially a game of Simon Says yet the leader is dressed as a clown. Or what about Pin the Nose on the clown? – An adaption of the classic Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

If you take note of the five points mentioned in this article then you are guaranteed to plan the perfect circus themed party for your little one. From clown balloons printed to scrumptious frozen bananas; this is a party that will impress!
