The Pros and Cons of Commuting to Work

When you start a new job, you have to decide whether to commute to its location or move closer to your new office. This is not an easy decision to make, so here are the pros and cons of commuting to help you out.

Pros

Most people who commute have jobs that are based in the centre of a big city. This means that if you want to be near your place of work, you have to be living in the city centre. This is something that many people simply aren’t prepared to do. There are lots of drawbacks associated with living in the city, and that’s one of the main reasons why many choose to live further out of the city and commute instead.

For a start, living in the city tends to be very expensive compared to living in the suburbs. You get much less for your money too. In the suburbs or the country, you get lots of space for your family to live in and grow. But, obviously, space is at a premium in the city, so most people can only afford to live in small apartments. This is not an ideal situation for people who are trying to raise a family.

Commuting is also appealing to people who like to keep their work and family lives separate. Once you step off the train and arrive home at the end of the day, you don’t have to worry about being called back into work or anything like that. For many people, this is a comforting thought that appeals greatly to them.

Cons

Commuting takes a lot of time. If you live in in the countryside and work in the city, you have to spend hours to get to and from work. This can mean sitting on the train bored, and that’s not a lot of fun. You’ll have to sacrifice a lot of things. You won’t be able to see your family in the morning, and you won’t be able to spend as much time with them in the evening because you’ll be busy traveling. This is something that you’ll have to take into consideration.

It can also cost a lot of money to commute to work, so you could find that your family is much worse off. If your household budget is already pretty tight, you might not be able to cope with the cost of traveling to and from work every day. If you have to get the train, this can be even more expensive than driving there. At least when you drive, you can have your own space though.

Living far away from where you work often leaves you out of the loop too. If you’re the kind of person that likes to socialise with the people you live with, living far away from where your colleagues work might be a problem. But if you want to find a home somewhere that will help to cut your commute, you can visit Abbotts Countrywide. This might be a good idea if you don’t think the commuter life would suit you.

As you now know, commuting does have its plus points, but there are plenty of drawbacks that you need to consider too!
