Don’t: Rush

Rushing through the renovation is only going to spell disaster. Whether you’re doing it yourself or paying a firm to do it for you. Never try to get it done as quick as possible. Rushing leads to mistakes, and mistakes lead to more cost. Take the time needed to get it right.

Do: Know Your Design

It’s a good idea to know the design you want for your kitchen before you begin. You need to be certain on how your kitchen should look. Going back over and redoing parts of it again and again is only going to cost more in time and materials.

Don’t: Cause Leaks

Kitchen renovations sometimes can mean the plumbing gets damaged in the process. It’s important the water stays off for the duration of the renovation, or else there are going to be leaks.

If a leak happens and you can’t fix it even by turning the water off, call an emergency plumber. It could be a pipe was pierced by a nail or simply cracked while the sink was being removed from the wall.

Do: Have A Consistent Theme

To avoid ‘buyer’s remorse’ with your kitchen, at least make sure everything is visually consistent. This should compliment your overall design at the very least, but make sure it all fits. That means everything from materials to colour. If you’re thinking of black marble surfaces, you should probably go for a black and white colour scheme throughout the whole kitchen and stick to marble wherever you can.

Don’t: Be Unprepared

If you need adhesive prepared for the sink, it better be ready for when you need to use it. If you need tools, make sure you have them to hand. Being unprepared wastes time. While a tremendous amount of patience needs to be had when doing a full kitchen renovation, you can still find ways to save some time.

Do: Get Your Oven Fitted By A Professional

A gas or electric cooker needs to be hooked up by a certified professional. Even if you are capable of doing it yourself, don’t do it. Without that certification, you are putting yourself at legal risk if something goes wrong.

Say for instance there’s a fire in the kitchen as a result of the oven. The insurance company will ask to see the papers proving you hired a certified fitter to get the oven done. If you can’t provide them, the insurance won’t pay out. You could even be prosecuted for arson because of negligence.

Don’t: Worry Too Much About It

It’s only a kitchen renovation. Trust the people you’ve hired to do it. If you’re doing it yourself, just follow the rules and use as many guides as possible to help you. Just relax, and let it start to come together piece by piece.
