Steps to Take When Cleaning Your Home from Top to Bottom

Cleaning the home adequately can seem like a huge undertaking, and in many ways it is. But that doesn’t mean that you should just ignore all the filth and junk. You just need to approach the task in a clear-headed and methodical way. It’s the only way to make sure that the job gets done in the proper fashion. Here are the steps that you should take when attempting to clean the home.

Create a Checklist

The very first thing to do before you do anything else is to prepare a checklist. This will help you a lot when it comes to actually cleaning the home. It’s easy to miss things and not do everything that needs to be done if you don’t have a helpful checklist to remind you. This is something that only takes a few minutes to prepare, but it could help you a lot when it really matters. Go over the checklist a few times to make sure that you haven’t missed anything out.

Start at the Top

One of the places that people often forget to clean is the high places in the home. So, when you’re cleaning the home from top to bottom, you should start at the top. This means cleaning the light fixtures because they build up dirt and dust pretty easily. You should also dust all the shelves in the home. Take down all the things that are on the shelves and dust them as well. This might take a long time if you have a lot of things on your shelves. Then you can move onto the rest of the home. At this point, you might want to decide whether you’re going to do all the work yourself. Or whether you’re going to hire the most reliable house cleaner you can find instead.

Tackle the Bathroom

The bathroom is the most challenging room in the home to clean. But it is one of those jobs that really needs to be done. It’s best to start with the worst task: the toilet. Get the worse job out of the way first. Get your rubber gloves on and scrub the inside of it with a sponge. You can get plenty of good products that will make the job easier as well. Once you’ve but the products in, let them settle there for a while, and then wipe it down. You can then move onto the shower; they build up grime pretty quickly. Use a bristled brush and some shower cleaning products to lift off any of the grime on it. You can mix ammonia with soapy water to clean any of the glass on the shower.

Clean the Inside of the Oven

This is not exactly the most fun task to take care of. But it is something that needs to be done. And another thing to remember is that the longer you leave the problem, the harder the oven will be to clean. You’ll really notice the difference it makes to your kitchen once the job has been taken care of though. Obviously, the job is made much easier if you have a modern oven with a self-cleaning setting. But most ovens don’t, so you will have to start by soaking the oven racks in hot soapy water. You should then spray a cleaning product inside the oven and let it sit for a while. Then you can scrape off any dirt and sponge it down until all the filth has been removed.

Declutter all the Wardrobes and Storage Spaces

Decluttering is something that everyone has to do once in awhile. So, why not take the chance to declutter while you’re cleaning the home? The place where the most clutter tends to reside is in the different cupboards, wardrobes and storage spaces. So, if I were you, I’d rummage through all the drawers and cupboards you have and ask yourself what you really need. Most of the stuff you’ll find will probably be completely useless to you, so do you really need to keep hold of it? It might be cleverer to sell some of the things you have on an online auction site and make some money. You’ll then be able to enjoy all that extra space that you have in your home. And that can only be a positive.

Lift the Dirt Off the Floors

The floor is where the bulk of the dirt of your home builds up. The simple reason for this is gravity. Bits of dirt, fluff and grime fall to the floor, and they stay there until you clean them. Different types of floors can be cleaned in different ways. If you have a carpet, the most appropriate way to clean it is with a vacuum cleaner. This will lift up the dirt and make the carpet fresh and clean again. This should be done very regularly if you have pets; the hairs get everywhere. For tiles and wooden floors, you should use a dry dust mop. Carpet sweepers are also useful if you have a carpet but don’t want to do lots of vacuum cleaning.

Polishing Wood

The first step to take before you polish the wooden furniture in your home is to use wax remover the items. This is done to help protect the wood and remove any excess dirt and wax that was left from last time the item was polished. Never forget to do this before you actually polish the items. Then you can lightly polish the surface of the item, covering all of it. Don’t be tempted to over polish the item though; this can cause further problems later down the line. If you polish it too much, excess wax will build up as the item dries. When the item is dry, go over the item with a dry cloth. And then the job is done.

If you follow all of these steps, you will have a clean and tidy home in no time at all. So, what are you waiting for?
