Start Your Day Right

Life can be hectic and stressful, and there are days where you really don’t want to get out of bed and face the day. And that’s normal. But the fact remains that you have to get up and get going. The good thing is that that are things that you can do to make sure that you start your day right so that you are ready to face whatever life has to throw at you. A lot of making sure that you’re morning goes right, stems from doing the right preparation the night before – so you have enough time in the morning to get up peacefully.

Evening Prep

The night before make sure that you have everything ready for the next day; pack your work bag with everything you need. Make your lunch and even prep your breakfast for the next morning. If you have kids, then make sure their things are ready too – you can even start incorporating getting their clothes and bags ready as part of their bedtime routine, that way it’s not on you to do everything.

Sleep

The key to a good morning is a good night’s sleep. An average adult needs at least eight to ten hours of sleep a night, so make sure you get it. Head to bed when you feel tired – and don’t try and push it off; you’ll just force your body to wake up again. Spend time relaxing in the tub or with a book away from your bed, and only head there when you’re ready to sleep – that way your brain associates the bed with sleep and not with lying awake. Don’t go from looking at a screen to trying to fall asleep – it can mean that your brain doesn’t shut down properly.

Waking Up

Set your alarm away from your bed, that way you have to get up in the morning. You can also force yourself to get up by drinking water just before sleeping. Once you’re out of bed DO NOT get back in. Make the bed and start your morning routine. Start the day by giving yourself a bit of love and spend time on a good skin care routine – it will leave you feeling refreshed and happy.

Breakfast

It really is the most important meal of the day. If you don’t have loads of time in the morning, then prep you’re breaky the night before. But if you have a little more time, then mix things up from your usual toast or porridge, and have avocado and scrambled egg on toast, or coconut or almond yoghurt with fruit, honey and sunflower seeds. Team it with fruit water or fresh orange juice. Have your morning caffeine fix by all means, but replace the sugar with honey, or the milk with coconut oil. Wherever you can – ditch the dairy first thing in the morning, as it can slow down your digestive system.
