The 1920s were a time of stunning glamour with heavy eye makeup that makes eyes really stand out and striking bold lip colours. This style of makeup is very much in vogue at the moment and has been showcased on the red carpet at many different events so just how do you recreate this timeless look in the twenty first century?

With a bold look such as this, it is a good idea to start out with your eye makeup to ensure that you can sweep away any excess powder before putting on your foundation or tinted moisturiser.

Eyes the Limit!

First start out with a smooth base on your eyes, brush some foundation or concealer onto lids; this will give your shadow a solid platform as well as providing some real sticking power to your eye makeup to prevent slippage. Take a plump eye shadow pencil and warm it a little on the back of your hand to ensure that it doesn’t drag the delicate eyelid skin. Sweep the pencil over your eyelid from your lashes to the top of your lid and create a deep strong base by smoothing the colour with a blending brush. If you want to use something a little easier on the eyelid than a chunky eye shadow pencil, use a cream eye shadow in a dark, smoky hue.

Blend a deep blue or violet shadow around the top of the lid and use a dark pencil to draw around the top and bottom lids to make the eyes really pop in contrast. For a sexy shimmer, take a dark sparkling powder eye shadow and gently brush over the lids to help set the look.

Boost those Lashes!

Take dark mascara and sweep gently over your top and bottom lashes for ultra definition. For a varied look you could try brown or deep plum mascara that will help add depth to your eye makeup. For extra wow factor, simply apply a pair of false lashes and blend them within your makeup.

Next, dust away any eye shadow that may have escaped onto your cheeks or use a little tape to gently lift the powder away and apply foundation with a brush to your cheeks, forehead, chin and neck. Blend the foundation using your brush and be careful not to smudge your eye make up in the process. Gently apply a little powder to fix the look and a little blush to your cheekbones to add depth.

Raising your Eyebrows

Sculpt your eyebrows using a brush and add a little brow pencil for sharp definition. Well groomed eyebrows are essential to this look and to keep them in place there are some great brow fix solutions, you can find various recommendations in any popular beauty magazine but for a quick fix, spray a tiny amount of unperfumed hairspray onto an eyebrow brush and style your brows to perfection.

Perfect Pout

Lastly, for the perfect lip colour, when smoothing on your foundation run your fingers over your lips to apply a good base then draw a perfect lip line using a deep red lip pencil. Paint on a matching lip colour using a brush; there are many long lasting lipsticks that are ideal for this look so choose a lip colour with sticking power.

This look is so workable and with a few hair accessories and a beautiful choker necklace you’ll ooze twenties Hollywood glamour. So the next time you are searching for the perfect look, why not try the smoky eyes and deep red lipstick combination for a striking sensation
