Redesigning Your living Room on a Budget

We recently moved house to somewhere a little more spacious that the place we were in before, as such we ended up inheriting the previous renters furniture. Don’t get me wrong, this is good news, we went from a two bedroom to a four bedroom so any extra furnishings were appreciated.

For the most part.

Some of the pieces have seen better days, especially the arm chairs, love seat and the dining chairs in the kitchen. I mentioned this to my new neighbour who got incredibly excited as she reeled off a few of the options I could pursue, all whilst saving money.

Reinventing with Reupholstery

My cream love seat has definitely seen better days, after attempting to use stain remover I gave up and tried my neighbours plan of action, reupholstering the sofa. I have to say it worked brilliantly, for the same price as sending it out to be professionally done I was able to get new foam for the cushions as well as a material that matched my style and price. I had a lot of fun playing with the staple gun too. The best part is the couch looks completely new and brings a whole new feel to the living room.

I may have also purchased some snazzy throw cushions…

Accessories Galore

My mother frequently changes the look of her living room and it took me a few visits to figure out how she was doing it, once I guessed I grilled her about it and she admitted that… Yes, she was simply changing a few accessories and pillows in the room and that was what made it seem like it was a brand new design each time I went. She would swap out throw pillow cases, coloured vases and even the key bowl or rug if she found a bargain in the sale. A great, and cheap, way to keep your living room fashionable while on a budget.

Redesigning Your living Room on a BudgetA Lick of Paint…

Have you ever thought about having a feature wall? Its a way to make a room feel larger and airier or create a more cosy and romantic feeling, a complete change in atmosphere with just a splash of colour. Maybe you want to go the whole hog and paint all your walls, or go for a Georgian feel and add a Dido rail and a colour to the lower half of your walls. Its all good and its all cheap, get to it!

The Old Switcheroo

My personal favourite for giving your living room a new feel is to move your furniture around, in fact I love to do this with one of the other ideas I’ve mentioned and it makes my living room feel like a whole new room. It also means other pieces of furniture can be switched out to be more of a display piece or you can finally get your telly hoisted above the mantle piece to give yourself a little more room or put the TV stand to some other use.
