Pinterest Fail – Baked “Hardboiled” Eggs {updated with fail pics}

Baked "hardboiled" eggs {pinterest fail}

I have seen tons of pins on Pinterest lately that say if you bake eggs at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes you get hard boiled eggs that easier to peel. Well, I gave this 3 shots thinking if it’s so popular it has to work, right? Wrong. I adjusted the oven temps and baking times and every time my eggs came out brown (which baked onto the egg white, not just the outer shell) polka dotted. I found it HARDER to peel them, not easier and actually ended up throwing away over a dozen eggs because I was stripping them down to the egg yolks.

I think I’m going to stick to boiling my eggs from now on.

    Interesting, I never heard that one! I wonder where people come up with some of these πŸ™‚

  2. OK. I see this all the time and am always skeptical. I am very glad I read this. It saved me time and frustration!

    I have seen this on Pinterest and thought I’m gonna try it. But now that you have and it didn’t work out I’ll go with what you said. It’s just like someone posting a pic on FB the first day of spring with an egg standing on it’s own on his kitchen counter. This can only be done the first day of spring? Do you think it worked for me??? Heck no.

  4. I tried it a few weeks ago and thought it was fine. I used a mini muffin pan to bake them in and each egg had a tiny brown spot where it was touching the edge of the pan. Other than that, I prefer it because it’s easier than boiling πŸ™‚

  5. Ha! You know I saw how trending this was, it makes you think really?? Personally I thought it was a weird way to bake an egg that would take longer than boiling. I am glad you tried it out haha.. And set the record straight!

  6. I tried it on Sunday! It worked. You have to set the oven to 325 and put them in for 30 minutes. Mine did get a big polka dotty, but after you take them from the oven, plunge them in ICE WATER and it rinses off. The shell did peel off of all but 2 of them very easily.

    Interesting! Did you find them overall easier than just boiling them?

  8. Hey from Arts & Crackers! I have never seen this on Pinterest before…very interesting! Might have to give this a try

  9. I have seen this idea going around Pinterest and wanted to give it a try. Now I’m not so sure! It seemed like a way to save time but maybe it’s not worth it.

  10. Oh no! I just tried to bake some eggs this morning (to dye) but we haven’t peeled them yet. Now I’m nervous πŸ™‚

    The easiest way to hard cook eggs- West Bend egg cooker!!!! The eggs are perfect and easy to peel every time. My husband loves deviled eggs and I only make them on Easter if he is lucky. I now make them whenever he asks, or sometimes as a surprise. You can only do 7 eggs at a time but it doesn’t take long so just do more than one batch if you need more. I am not big on frivolous kitchen “appliances” but this one is a definite keeper. This Christmas gift was the best and I think it only costs about $20!

  12. We do this all the time – I have a large family and it works great. Not sure what is going wrong but I do plunge them in cold water at the end.

    I never knew you could bake eggs are in the shell. This is totally new to me. Somehow, boiling eggs just seems easier than this to me.
