Owning Your Next Move

So you’ve landed a great job in the city, and you found the perfect home for your new life. Everything is falling into place, and you can’t wait to get started. The cable company is scheduled, the water and electric services are activated and the newspaper will be on the doorstep in the morning. There’s nothing left to do but kick back and enjoy your surroundings, right? Feeling optimistic, you stroll over to the refrigerator for a celebratory beer in your immaculate kitchen and realize that there is no refrigerator. You were so distracted by your excitement that you forgot to confirm your moving schedule with the appliance delivery service

Make Lists

This advice may seem obvious, but keeping a written record of what you know you will need, what you think you will want and everything that pops into your mind in between can make all the difference in how smoothly your move goes. Check items and tasks off as soon as they are satisfied, and try to keep your list nearby whenever possible. Whether with a pen and paper or an application on your smartphone, you will find that keeping track of everything in one place will simplify your life immeasurably. It will even make choosing your decor fun!

Start With the Essentials

The bathroom might include a garden tub, but does it also have a supply of towels? Is the bedroom equipped with blankets and sheets? Think about your daily routine and what items are absolutely necessary for your most basic requirements. Much like traveling, you will need a variety of things to get by such as toiletries and medications. Also remember that you may have to live out of boxes for a time until you are accustomed to your surroundings, so be sure to keep extra clothing aside with your other vital belongings.

Don’t Forget the Personal Touches

Making a space your own means more than simply occupying it. If you hated the color of the kitchen walls the first time you saw them, add paint or framed photographs to your checklist. Is the hard floor too cold? Cozy throw rugs will warm the room effortlessly. The important thing to remember in this category is that you should feel a sense of being at home when you enter a room. Your house (or apartment) is meant to be your oasis from the rest of the world, and making sure that you have everything that you need to make that happen will get you there much sooner.
