My Huge Guide to Ensuring Your Entire House is in Tip Top Condition

We all want to have that house on the street that everyone is in awe of. The one that the neighbours talk about, because they wish their home looked that good. The thing is, it doesn’t need to be difficult or cost a small fortune. To keep your property in tip-top condition can be a piece of cake! I’ve put together a massive guide to help you do just that. Go through and tick each thing off as you’re done.

The Front Garden

I’m going to start right at the very front of the house. Your front yard is one of the first things people are going to notice about your home. If you don’t have one, then feel free to skip straight onto the next point. If you’re an avid gardener, then you probably don’t need this tip either! However, if your front garden looks like it needs a bit of TLC then read on. You should start with the basics, such as mowing the lawn and getting rid of weeds. You’ve then got a blank canvas to work from. Give your gate or fence a lick of paint too! You don’t need to be a landscaper in order to create a beautiful front yard. A few potted plants can completely transform that small space at the front of your home.

Doors and Windows

It’s imperative you keep your doors and windows in good condition. They’re another one of the first things people will lay eyes on. Regular window cleaning is a must! You can hire someone to do it for you or do it yourself if you’ve got a tall enough ladder. Don’t forget to clean the inside of the windows too. Grease marks will show through, even if the outside is clean. Your door should be painted every year. It may sound like a chore, but it will keep it looking fresh. Don’t forget to clean and paint all the frames around windows and doors, too!

Outside Walls

Many people forget about the upkeep of their walls. At least on the outside of their home. You paint and decorate the inside walls, so do the same on the other side. If you’ve got a dull brick or something similar, then you can jet wash your walls in the summer. This will get rid of any dirt or grime that can build up over time. Those with painted walls should think about giving them a freshen up at least once every couple of years. Just make sure you’ve got someone you can rope in to help. Trying to do it yourself can be risky.

The Roof

Stand on the other side of the straight and take a look at your home. What’s the one thing you notice the most? It’s probably the roof! If it’s in bad condition, then it can make the rest of your property look untidy. It can also cause problems such as leaking or drafts. Companies such as Southwest Roofing can quickly fix any issues you have with the roof. If it’s getting old, then it’s always a good idea to get some work done on it. If you’ve got the money, go for a new roof entirely. It will save you a fortune in heating bills, in the long run.

Back Garden

We’re almost done with the outside of the house now. Your final project out here is going to be the back yard. You’re going to want to follow a similar plan as the one for the front garden. Get all of the basics out of the way first, to give yourself a blank canvas. Then you can revamp your backyard until it’s looking beautiful. Your neighbours will be green with envy.

Inside the Home

Now that the outside of the house is finished let’s take a look inside. You’ve already got the best looking house on the street from the exterior, but how does the interior look? Does it need a little bit of a spruce up? Here are my top tips for each room in the house:

  • Living Room – To give the impression that there’s more space, make sure you paint the walls in a neutral colour. You can add in a feature wall if you want a splash of something extra. Also, make sure your furniture placement isn’t making the room feel cramped. There are plenty of guides online about how to arrange your living room space.
  • Dining Room – These rooms can tend to feel a little dark, at the best of times. Again, try to stick with lighter colours. If you have a wooden table, then opt for a varnish that will lighten it up a bit. You could even sand it down and go for a more rustic feel.
  • Kitchen – It’s the hub of any home! This is the one room you want to pay the most attention too. There are so many different styles and trends, so go with a vibe you like best. From modern monochrome to shabby chic. This is where the most of your interior design budget should be spent.
  • Bathrooms – Another area of the house that will need some due care and attention. A dated bathroom suite can make the whole house feel unloved. Consider investing in a new bath and toilet set, to bring it back into the 21st century.
  • Bedrooms – This is where you get to have the most fun! After all, how many people will nose around your bedrooms? Let your imagination run wild and create a space that’s personal to you.

Phew! My huge guide is over. You now have all the advice you need to ensure your entire house is in tip-top condition. Your neighbours won’t know what’s hit them, by the time you’ve ticked all these things off the list.
