If you think about all the time we spend in bed – on average 10 hours a day – that’s a massive 70 hours a week. For a place we spend so much time in, surely it’s a crime not to make it as cosy and comfortable as possible?

Your bedroom is your private space, so it makes sense that it should be your most personal place in the house. Your bed should be so cosy and comfortable that you never want to leave it…

Here are our six steps to make your bed as cosy, comfortable and inviting as possible:

Step 1: Buy good quality pillows

Get rid of your old, saggy pillows and replace them with a pair of brand new, beautifully fluffy pillows.

Walking into your local bed store, you may feel a little overwhelmed by all the different types of pillows available. There is everything from feather and memory foam to down, microbead and buckwheat. But, there is no need to get stressed out. Just ask the store clerk to recommend the three most comfortable types of pillow and give each of them a try.

Opt for the most comfortable and fluffy pillows available – feather and down are always good choices.

Step 2: Choose linen instead of cotton

Instead of using cotton pillowcases and sheets, choose lined for your bed. Not only is linen comfortable and cosy, it looks a lot nicer than cotton and takes less care.

Step 3: Invest in a mattress topper

To make your bed even more comfortable and cosy, invest in a mattress topper.

Mattress toppers come in various materials, with the most comfortable and most luxurious ones coming in feather, down or wool. Have a look online at John Ryan Contemporary to find your perfect mattress topper.

As well as luxury mattress toppers are also many synthetic mattress toppers available, as well as memory foam alternatives.

Step 4: Buy a duck feather duvet

While synthetic duvets are warm, there is something about feather duvets that are so much cozier and more comfortable – perhaps it is their cloud-like feel.

To make your bed as cosy and comfy as it can be, invest in a large duck feather duvet.

Step 5: Invest in a throw

If you have opted for neutral bedding – white and beige look great – then you may want to invest in a colourful throw to liven your room up a bit.

As well as adding some colour and style to your room, the right throw will also add even more comfort to your bed. Opt for a cotton throw over a silk one. Whilst silk throws look beautiful; they slide off the bed, catch easily and aren’t the most comfortable of things. Whereas a cotton throw looks pretty, is lovely and warm and is more long lasting than a silk throw would be.

Step 6: Buy a padded headboard

While you may think a padded headboard is outdated, a large oversized one will look great. Best of all, you won’t have to worry about banging your head anymore, as you will have an oversized cushion to protect you.
