We’re always looking for ways to expand our homes, yet we often forget our gardens! The garden is as much a part of the home as the rest of the house. Incorporating your garden into the home is easy. You could even invest in a sauna, and stay outside on the coldest of evenings!

Another great way to make sure you use your gardens is to host garden parties! It may not be practical all year round, but there are plenty of chances to throw a party outside throughout the year. Your guests are sure to enjoy themselves and remember the night for a long time to come. Like with any party, proper planning is essential. FOOD

Food is essential to any party. If you’re hosting a party outside, make sure you plan what food would be best. Bearing in mind that your oven is inside, so planning is crucial! There are a few different options for catering your garden party. Consider each one before deciding which option would be best. The most popular outdoor catering method is a barbecue. This option is great because it’s a way of bringing the oven outside with you! Barbecuing is an easy way to get around the issue of food, and the barbecue can form the centerpiece of your party. If you don’t yet have a barbecue, consider investing in one that offers everything you need. It’s not just the barbecue you’ll need to consider, either. Think too of barbecue utensils and fire equipment. Though the meat will form the main part of the meal, some preparation is still essential. Prepare salads and pasta dishes to go with those burgers and sausage rolls. The only downside to barbecues is that you’ll need a designated chef. Choose someone who is familiar with the workings of the barbecue. You don’t want uncooked meat making your guests ill! Cooking meat for a lot of people is no easy job, and the chef will be spending a lot of time in front of hot flames. Make sure you, or whoever you choose, are up for the job!

If a barbecue isn’t for you, there are other options to consider. A picnic could be a lot of fun for a garden party. You could set out blankets and make up picnic baskets. The key is to remember that you won’t be able to serve hot food. Again, salads and pasta dishes will be your friends. You’ll want some sandwiches in there too, obviously! Or, you could keep things traditional with a buffet. Buffet food always goes down well at parties. It’s easy to prepare and easy to eat. This option will leave you free to mingle with guests. Hot food is fine, but make sure you choose things that will be okay cold too.

DECORATION

Decorating for any party can be fun, but a garden party allows you to get creative. You don’t have wall space to cover, so you’re going to have to work out ways to hang your decorations in nature! First on the decoration agenda is tables. Decorating your tables right is going to make all the difference to your garden setting. Choose tablecloths that look good! White might not be best in the backyard. As you’re in nature already, you could keep that theme going with your color scheme. Look out for oranges, blues and greens. Consider, too, your lighting. As the night draws in, things are going to get dark. Not having proper lighting could be disastrous for your party! You could buy battery powered or solar light. If you plan to host many parties outside, invest in a proper lighting system that will see you through. Fairy lights also look fantastic in any garden! You could get creative with how you hang these. Draping them between trees will create a lovely atmosphere. It’s worth noting that fairy lights don’t offer a huge deal of light. You might want something a little brighter around too. You could opt for fairy lights and candlelit tables to create an ambient atmosphere.

POOL FUN

If you’re lucky enough to have a pool, make sure you incorporate it into the fun. Nothing beats a pool party, and your guests are sure to have a lot of fun. Investing in a pool heater will ensure that your pool gets used in all weathers. It’ll keep the guests warm too! If you are incorporating a pool into your party, get creative with entertainment. Blow up toys are sure to go down well, as are sunloungers and rubber rings. Don’t go too crazy with this; else the pool will be packed. Just buying a few and leaving them out for guests will ensure a lot of fun. You might even want to look into water features for a home pool. Water features can set your pool off, and everyone will love the addition. Remember to leave towels around the pool, too. If your guests are wet without a towel, they’re sure to get cold. Oh, and make sure everyone brings a swimming costume with them! It’s worth buying a few spares in different sizes, just in case. You don’t want anyone missing out at your party.

GAMES

No party is complete without a few party games, and a garden party is no different. There are all sorts of fun game options for outdoors. Investing in large board games is always fun. Keep your guests amused with a giant Jenga, or a massive game of checkers. Setting up a mini golf course is another excellent idea. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on this, either. Get creative and make up a course of your own. All you need are the golf clubs and a ball! You could hire out a ping pong table for the night and set that up too. Talking of hiring things out, why not revisit your childhood by hiring out a bouncy castle? Bouncy castles always go down well, and you can guarantee people will be bouncing on it all night. Or, you could hire a bucking bull. These are another garden based entertainment that goes down a treat. How many parties have you been to with a bucking bull? Not many, I bet.

You could incorporate the pool into your games too. Buying some blow-up balls can lead to all sorts of pool related games. You could even invest in an over the pool net, and get people playing volley ball. You could organize everyone to run around at the same time and cause a whirlpool. Bear in mind that the ground around your pool might get a little mucky with that one! Even classic games like tag can take on a whole new meaning when played in the water.

MUSIC

Hosting a party outside means you’re going to need to turn your attention to music as well. Keeping your music set up near the house will allow you to stretch wires out windows. Using this method, you can get your stereo speakers outside without hassle. Alternatively, you could invest in a set of speakers that plug straight into a phone or computer. This method would avoid any dangling wires. It’s never good to have wires trailing on the floor, especially when there’s water involved! It’s not just the way you get your music outside that matters, either. Choosing a playlist is an important part of any party. As you’re in the garden, summer anthems are sure to go down a treat. Ask your guests beforehand and see if there are any songs they would love to hear. That way, you can have their favorites to hand on the night.

If none of the above sounds like it’ll be any good for you, why not look into getting a live band? Live bands are excellent, and they add an authentic vibe to any evening. Hiring a band doesn’t come cheap, but it can be worth the expense. If you know anyone who’s in a band, or who knows of a band that could play, it’s worth asking them. Smaller groups often play parties for cheap, just to get their names out there. It also helps if you provide them with food and drink. See if you can sort out a deal and get a live band to liven up your night!

With all the above points considered, you’re just about ready to host your party! You can breathe easy knowing that you’ve planned for the night as well as possible. After that, make sure to sit back and enjoy the party!
