Interior Space: The Final Frontier To Conquer In Your Home

Picture the house you lived in twenty years ago. Unless you’re too young for that, in which case ask your parents to show you some photos. Don’t laugh at those squares of glossy paper; that’s what selfies used to come on. Now, compare that house to the one you live in today. What stands out as different to you?

For many of us, the first thing to notice is that we used to have so much more stuff around our houses. Sometime in the last couple of decades, de-cluttering has become a religion. And it’s now hard to imagine how it could be any other way. Imagine your home with the space cut in two. Are you stressing out? It’s hard not to, just picturing it.

We’ve become a lot more concerned with keeping space in our homes, and with good reason. Space makes it easier to move around. It keeps the place looking clean. And it allows us to appreciate better the things that we do have in our houses.

I Don’t Have Enough Space. I Want More!

Fashions come and go in household furnishing and renovations, but it’s fair to say that the need for space isn’t going away. If anything, we’re getting more and more minimalist in our tastes. Sleeker lines, fewer unnecessary additions. And the next step for many of us is looking to add to the space we have. When you look to renovate your home, chances are you’re thinking of paint colors that make it look more open. Recessed blinds instead of curtains, that kind of thing.

Still Not Enough?

If you’ve stripped your home right down to the point where there is nothing there you don’t need, creative thinking is key. You can’t have less stuff, so you need more home. But have you tried building an extension recently? Getting planning permission is a long, drawn out process and stressful to boot. Just what you want to avoid! So it may be time to consult a conservatory guide. Putting in a conservatory means you extend without building an extension.

Sounds Good. Can I Do It Myself?

Well, only you can answer that question. If you’re skilled with DIY you can add a conservatory without calling in a tradesperson. But whatever you do, don’t just buy the materials and get going. Research what you need to do. Take measurements, compare materials and looks. You can buy ready-to-go conservatory kits, but they’re not necessarily right for every property. So take the time to research properly.

If Someone Else Does It, How Much Will It Cost?

Building work is, of course, not cheap. You have to balance how much you feel comfortable paying with how much it might add to the value of the house. Or, for that matter, take off it if it goes wrong. You can expect to pay approximately £500, or 600€, per square meter. Like I said, not cheap – so you have to ask yourself how much space you need. But picture yourself sipping cocktails in there in summer, too, and ask yourself how much that’s worth!
