Iconic Developments In Human History

We have come a long way since the days of living in caves, hunting for food and discovering the wheel. The infographic below outlines the major milestones in human development, providing a time-traveling guide through the ages.

Millions of years ago, humans survived by making fires and using basic tools to hunt and gather food. The earliest hunting tool was discovered in Africa, and it is thought to date back 2.6 million years. For 99% of our existence, hunting and gathering have provided sustenance, but 15,000 years ago, humans adopted a novel approach, and the agricultural revolution began.

Early man was apprehensive and unsure about the skies above, but as time passed, attitudes changed, and a growing interest in astronomy led to the publication of star maps and theories about the movement of the Earth and the sun and the components of the universe. An interest in Mathematics and construction also contributed to some of the most significant feats of engineering in our time, including Stonehenge. Some of the theories put forward thousands of years ago, for example, Pythagoras’ theorem, are still taught in schools today.

As research into the universe, science and mathematics progressed, the way humans worked and made money also evolved. The Industrial Revolution set a precedent for the way we operate today, triggering advances in technology and a focus on increasing output and improving efficiency. The Scientific Revolution, which occurred during the 15th-17th centuries in Europe, also provided us with nuggets of knowledge and innovations and inventions that have impacted our lives ever since.

Today, life is very different to the age of cave dwelling, with technology playing an increasingly integral role in our lives. We are living in the age of digitalization and it remains to be seen what will happen next.
