I Just Got A Pool Fitted In My Garden: Here’s Why You Should Too!

Now I know what you’re thinking: I’ve got a pool in my backyard, so I must be rich, right? Well, it might shock you to learn that I’m the least wealthiest person you know! When I make improvements to my home, I try to find the best (and cheapest) options in my budget.

No, that doesn’t mean I’m a cheapskate. I just like to make sure I only buy what I need, not things to impress the neighbors. Not everyone has a swimming pool in their garden, as people assume it’s a high cost to bear.

But, I decided to take the plunge (excuse the pun) and have one of my own. Did I win the lottery? No! Did someone else pay for it? No! OK, so how exactly could I afford to get a swimming pool? And why did I get one? Let me explain:

A swimming pool helps me stay healthy

I’m someone that loves to go swimming whenever possible. But, living hundreds of miles away from the coast doesn’t make easy! I know I could go and use a public pool in my town, but I don’t want to do so. I’d rather have my own pool; it encourages me to stay healthy, believe it or not.

I can wake up at 6 am and go for an early morning swim before breakfast. When I get home from work, I can do some more swimming before having a shower and eating dinner. And when I’ve got friends visiting, it gives me an excuse to have a pool party!

Swimming isn’t the only thing I do to stay in shape, as I’m also a keen cyclist. But, I’m just someone that wants to spend a lot of time in the water rather than out of it. Especially on a warm summer’s day.

I did some of the work myself

Let’s face it; getting a swimming pool installed usually involves five-figure sums. But, I saved myself a few grand by doing some of the work myself!

First up, I hired a digger and removed enough dirt to lay a sturdy concrete foundation. I also bought a swimming pool in kit form (yes, they do exist) to save even more cash. I did get the pros in for the major building work, though.

I could design the pool I wanted

There’s one brilliant thing about a semi-DIY swimming pool effort. You have greater input over your pool’s design, of course! I decided to go for an unusual design, as I’m someone known for quirky styles and tastes.

I also deviated from the norm and didn’t go with a typical decoration for the area by the pool. Instead, I went for decking. Why? There are many pool decking benefits. First, they are cheaper to install. Second, I think they look nicer than tiles or bricks. And, third, they are easy for the DIYer to fix if you damaged them!

So, now you know the reasons (and secrets) to me getting a pool in my garden. I urge you to get one for yours too; it’s such a brilliant addition to any home!
