How To DIY Your Own Wedding Catering

When it comes to DIY, we often think about putting up shelving units, yet the truth is you can DIY anything, from holidays through to weddings… there is, of course, a limit on how much of your own wedding you can do yourself – as it is, after all a rather formal process… but when it comes to simple touches such as flower arranging and calligraphy, a lot of things can be taken care of by yourself or with the help of your friends and family.

Now, when it comes to wedding catering, this is definitely an area you can take care of yourself, but it’s important to be mindful of the time commitment and potential for stress, from catering for a large group of people, particularly if you’re new to it – which is the last thing you want on your wedding day.

You therefore need to find a way to mitigate the stress and panic faced by many professional caterers, let alone, bride’s and groom’s when it comes to catering.  The first way, is to lean on friends and family; let them take some of the burden away from you – indeed, we all tend to have someone in our life that loves to cook and is great at it.

Leverage your friends and family to help out – that’s the first tip – the second tip is to look at the types of food you can prepare in advance that mean it’s low hassle on the day, and remember, that unlike buying engagement rings at 77 Diamonds, that will last a lifetime, food is going to consumed and forgotten about.  You don’t need to splurge; you just need to provide an adequately tasty meal for your guests.

On that note, let’s take a look at a few different hassle free options to cater your own wedding:

A RUSTIC BUFFET

There are two great things about offering a rustic buffet; firstly, you can get everyone in on the action by bringing a particular dish… secondly, the food in a buffet tends to be cold, or if you are serving something warm, such a pulled barbecue park for instance, then you can leave this simmering in a crockpot without having to “cook” and watch over it.

BBQ

A barbecue is obviously a little more involved, but there’s usually one person who loves being at the helm of the barbecue flipping burgers and sausages to order.  If not, you can always hire someone to fulfil this task at a pretty reasonable rate. Furthermore, BBQ’s aren’t just for meat eaters you can grill vegetables, halloumi and even substitute burgers for vegetarian guests.

FOOD TRUCKS

This isn’t quite “doing it yourself” but it’s a good option for those that don’t want the hassle of infrastructure of cooking themselves, yet would like to offer something a little more quirky than the standard catering options.  Today, there are many food trucks specialising in one particular cuisine, or even dish, and many are happy to turn up to an event for a fixed fee that is often negotiable as they are sole traders rather than corporate catering firms.
