How I Keep My House Clutter Free – 99% of the Time!

I’m not going to lie; there is no way on this planet anyone can keep their house free from clutter 100% of the time. It’s just impossible! There will always be something sentimental you want to keep hold of. Or a box full of handy bits for crafts and DIY. However, it’s not impossible to keep the majority of your home clutter-free. Most of the time. Here are some top tips for those who love a little bit of clutter, just not on their coffee table.

Be Brutal

This may sound like a bit of a strange tip, but hear me out. How many times have you kept something just for the sake of it? You don’t really like it that much, but you can’t bear throwing it in the bin. Maybe someone got it for you as a gift. Perhaps you think it has some kind of sentimental value. Be brutal! I’m not saying throw out all of those ornaments your Aunt Sheila got you. But that newspaper with a picture of Bradley Cooper in it can go. It’s time to stop hoarding things, just because you can. If you want a clutter free house then you’re going to need to be a little less sentimental. Always keep those things that are really important to you. But you can sell, donate or throw away the rest.

Storage Boxes and Bags

These will become your new best friend. You can give the illusion that your home is free from clutter when actually it’s all hidden under your bed in a box. This will also come in handy for those sentimental things you just can’t be brutal with. Firstly, measure up any space you have available in those nooks and crannies. We’re talking under the bed, in the attic, under the stairs. Now, invest in some storage boxes that will fit neatly into those areas. Alternatively, make them yourself! You can also buy those smart vacuum bags. These are super handy for clothes you don’t want to get rid of. Such as winter wear in the summer. Fill the bags up then attach your vacuum cleaner nozzle to it. Suck out the air and voila! You’ve got a tiny package that will slide neatly under your chest of drawers.

Use Outdoor Space

If you’ve got any kind of outdoor space, make the most out of it. I mean more your garage and shed, as opposed to your garden. Invest in some shelving and racking before you move anything into these areas. Otherwise, you’ll just end up with a load of clutter somewhere else. You can now store things neatly away, in a space that’s generally underused. Nobody will ever know that you’re secretly hoarding a tonne of stuff in your outhouse. I find this is a great idea for all those crafty DIY’ers too. It’s somewhere to hide all your tools!

These are all really simple tips, but you’ll be surprised at what a difference they can make. Honestly, staying clutter-free is easy! But staying 100% clutter-free, 100% of the time? Impossible. Anyway, who wants a house devoid of personality.
