How I Combined Style and Function in My Bedroom

Style and functionality should be the two main concerns for you when designing a new bedroom. Here’s how I got the balance right.

I Drew Up a Plan

The only way you can determine what a functional bedroom will look like for you is to draw up a clear and detailed plan. This is what I did, and I’d recommend it to everyone. It helps focus your mind and decide what you want from the room and how you want it to look and feel when you walk in.

It doesn’t have to be a case of sitting down and working out a plan in detail. It can be all done in your mind. But you do have to think about it in detail and consider all the available possibilities open to you. It allowed me to get the balance between the design I wanted and the way the room functioned right.

The Furniture Took Priority

The most essential part of any bedroom is the furniture in it. Of course, the main piece in a bedroom is the bed, so you should focus on this first. I got it right by placing it at the centre of the design of the room and built the rest of the design around it. I then combined this with functionality by buying a great waterbed. You can go to Boydwaterbeds.com/Waveless-Waterbed.php to see the one I bought.

This is the same approach I took to each piece of furniture in the room. I first thought about how it influences the overall style of the room and then thought about the layout and practical aspects too. It’s best to experiment with different thoughts and ideas until you find the right fit.

I Discovered the Importance of Open Spaces

The great thing about open floor space in the bedroom is that it makes the room look both stylish and functional. It’s functional because you have space to move around in. Our old bedroom design was full of too much clutter and junk that we didn’t need. This made the room feel small and claustrophobic.

Minimalism looks great in the bedroom. I found that the more I took away from the room, the better it started to look. It’s very easy to cram as much as you can into a room when you’re creating a new design. But this is a temptation that needs to be resisted if you want the room to look great.

The Budget Remained Strict

Functionality isn’t just about how the rooms functions; it’s also about designing the room in a function way, and you can only do that if you stay on budget. This is something that I made a priority when designing our new bedroom. It meant finding cheap ways to create great designs.

In the past, I’ve tended to buy the items for the home design before thinking about how much I have to spend. But when you do this, costs often spiral out of control. This can mean you run out of cash, and you end up with a half-finished room. And, to be honest, it looks terrible! So, set a strict budget like I did.

This is the way that worked for me, so why not see if it works for you too?
