Teenage boys tend to adopt their style from the latest boy bands and pop stars, or the kinds of clothes they see in their favourite console games. Hopefully, by the time you’ve hit 30, you’re ready to accept that dressing up like a teenager is starting to look a little weird. Your 30s and 40s are your chance to start dressing with more sophisticated style. You can still look cool, but nobody wants to see you with your trousers too low and a beanie hat on your head. Instead, consider these fashion tips:

Copy the Celebrities YOUR Age

It’s a fact that many people look to celebrities for style inspiration. There’s no harm in that, but if you’re in your 30s or 40s then the last thing you want is to be dressing like one of the boys from One Direction. Instead, find celebrities your age to emulate. Dress like the suave and sophisticated Justin Timberlake, the cool David Beckham or the alternative Johnny Depp, all of whom are style icons. Many celebrities have their own clothing brands, including Liam Gallagher who himself is in his 40s. Buying clothes from Pretty Green, or another celebrity clothing brand, is the easiest way to emulate the fashions of celebs your age.

Choose Branded Polo Shirts

A good polo shirt looks effortlessly casual. Perhaps the best brand is Fred Perry, with the ‘Fred Perry shirt’ and logo being iconic. Coupled with jeans or with tailored trousers, polo shirts are comfortable and great for the summer.

Buy Woollen Clothing

Chunky knit jumpers are perfect for colder days. Lighter jumpers are great all year, and can be used on formal and casual occasions, whilst the knitted cardigan is something of a men’s fashion staple. Again, you can look to David Beckham to see how to pull that off. Hoodies stop working when you’re trying to look more sophisticated and no longer comfortably fit with the teenagers and young adults. Fortunately, proper knitted clothes come to the rescue and make an even better replacement.

You Can’t Wear Trainers Constantly

Young men can get away with wearing trainers for almost every occasion. As you go through your 30s, you might suddenly find that you no longer want to look like you’re constantly about to play tennis. Invest in a few nice pairs of quality shoes, in browns and blacks, and think about ditching those once-white trainers or confining them to your sports kit.

Grow Old Gracefully

The key, when you’re past 30 years of age, is to pay attention to the phrase ‘growing old gracefully’. Accept that you’re no longer the epitome of youth. You’re certainly not old, but you should look back on your student years as a nostalgic memory rather than trying to dress like you’re still a uni student.

You’ve got a long way to go before your idea of fashion needs to feature plaid slippers, a dressing gown and an armchair permanently fixed to your behind, but if you’re looking at the One Direction boys and wondering how pop stars ever got so young then it’s time to trade in your graphic-covered t-shirts and get clothes with a little more class.
