Charities are a super important part of society and the world in which we live as they ensure that those who are less fortunate than us are always provided and cared for. As you can see, then, it is really important that you teach the kids the importance of charity. That way, they will grow up understanding just how important it is to always be generous with donations and their fundraising efforts. They will then grow up and become extremely kind and well-rounded adults who will always strive to improve society.

There are lots of different ways you can teach your children about charitable living and the importance of giving. Here are some of the best tips, though, so you can try a few different ones and see which works best for your family.

Use Disasters Around The World As Examples

Whenever there are any natural disasters around the world that devastate communities, you might want to use these as examples with which to teach your kids about charity. You should watch the news coverage with them and explain how charities will be helping the affected communities. For instance, they will be supplying fresh food and water and will also be providing essential medical care. Explain to your kids that the charities would not be able to provide all of this help and assistance if it weren’t for people’s continued donations and sponsorship.

Periodically Donate Clothes

Your children will be growing at incredible speeds. You will find that you need to buy them new clothes every few months to keep up with their growth spurts! So, what are you going to do with all of their old clothes? One great idea is to take them to your nearest charity shop and donate them. This way, you will find that your kids get into the habit of donating their clothes when they no longer need them. It will eventually become second nature for them and, hopefully, something that they continue to do well into their adult lives.

Take Part In Charity Events

Kids love taking parts in fun events so you might want to find a charitable event or activity to take part in. There are lots of different fun things going on that they can take part in and raise some money for charity as sponsorship. For instance, you might want to all enter into a fun run. There are lots of fun runs around the country that are aimed at families so you should be able to find one close to you. As a reward, you might want to gift them a challenge coin so that they have something to remember their big race with. But fun runs aren’t the only cool charity event that kids can join in with. If your kids aren’t fit enough to take part in a fun run, they could always go on an easy sponsored walk. Some other great fundraising ideas include bake sales and sponsored spelling bees.

Help Elderly Relatives

It’s a good idea to remember that charity should begin in the home. So, a good place to start is with any elderly relatives who might live close to you. It’s a nice gesture to help them out with your children. This then teaches your children the importance of helping out the elderly community. One nice example is to visit your elderly relatives and cook a meal for them. You can then all enjoy it together as a family. Loneliness is a big problem amongst older generations these days, and going round to see them and enjoy a meal with them will help them overcome any loneliness that they might be feeling. If your relatives suffer from mobility issues and struggle to leave the house, you might also want to do their grocery shopping for them. Hopefully, when your kids become teens and are able to have a bit more independence, they will be able to visit their elderly relatives without you and can take care of their grocery shopping for them on their own.

Be A Good Example

Children learn by example so it is absolutely crucial that you are setting a good one for them. If they see you take part in a lot of charitable events and try to raise some cash for local charities, then they will be a lot more willing to do so themselves. So, try and spread your kindness to your children by carrying out lots of acts of kindness. It’s also a good idea to reinforce your examples by explaining why you are carrying out all of the good deeds. For instance, tell the kids that it is so other can benefit but also because you will feel good about yourself for helping others. Hopefully, they will then understand that doing good deeds in aid of others can be beneficial to themselves as well.

Celebrate Giving

It’s important that you continually reinforce that giving to others and doing good deeds are all good things that we should be doing. One way to show your children that they are doing a good thing by being a charitable is to always celebrate their giving. You don’t have to go over the top with your celebrations. Just saying well done to them each time should be enough. If they do anything particularly special in aid of charity you might want to treat them with a gift.

Teach Time Can Be Donated Too

When we think about giving to charity, we often only consider giving money. While it’s true that charities always need extra funds, they also really appreciate people donating their time too. So, you should teach this to kids so that they don’t feel pressured into giving their money when they can’t really afford to. Instead of giving their cash, they might want to volunteer for a couple of hours each week at the local charity shop, for example.

Hopefully, all of the tips in this blog post will help to teach your kids about the importance of charity!
