Don’t Make These Mistakes Unless You Want to Call a Plumber!

None of us ever really want to call a plumber, but there are some things in the home that we just can’t fix ourselves. Sometimes, these issues can’t be helped. Home owners experience problems no matter how careful they are. That being said, some problems are still caused by silly mistakes that could have been avoided. Don’t make the following mistakes unless you want to actually call a plumber:

Putting Too Much Weight on Fixtures

Your fixtures are not made to have weight put on them, but I think we’re all guilty of doing this at one point or another. Even if you’ve never done it, you’ve more than likely been to a house that has, say, a rack hanging on the shower holding lots of different bottles. It might look neat and tidy, but it won’t look like that when your shower head snaps off! Imagine if it came off while you were in the shower?

Flushing Random Things Down the Toilet

The toilet is for number 1s and number 2s, and that is all. Please realise this right now before you have to call a plumber and get them to retrieve something embarrassing. I’ve spoken to plumbers who have had to literally remove toilets from the wall to get to the obstruction. A lot of the time it’s something random like a children’s toy, or even an old cosmetic item! It really is a lot less hassle to just put these things in the bin. However, children don’t always realise this so keep an eye on them around the toilet.

Putting All Manner of Items in Your Garbage Disposal

The garbage disposal disposes of garbage, we know this. But you can’t just throw anything down there. Some foods will stop the blades from whirring and you’ll need to call a plumbing company to fish them out. Foods like pineapple, for example, can be too hard to process. Although they’re good for the body, they’re not good for your disposal!

Using Chemicals

Using too many chemicals around the home can be a huge mistake, especially if you’re using them down drains. Drain unblockers can be used, but only when absolutely necessary. Using them when you have a blockage caused by something else is dangerous for your plumbing and even your family. Seriously think about whether it’s the right time to use chemicals or not. Don’t just use them for a quick fix because your plan will more than likely backfire.

Using DIY Tools

DIY tools include things like spoons, knives, and even metal coat hangers. If you haven’t got the right tools, don’t use anything at all! You can actually make the problem so much worse. Also, you should think twice before you use professional tools. If you’re not qualified to use them, just do yourself a favor and call the professionals.

These are easy mistakes to make; I know because I’ve been guilty of a few of them myself. Please just think before you make a fatal error that could cost you a lot of money!
