Icecream, swimming, playing, barbecues, parties, camping, hiking, sunbathing, eating, drinking, dancing… These are just a few of the many things that you will most likely be doing during the summer holidays, and while it’s important that you have fun and enjoy yourself with your family, it’s also vital not to forget the things you need, like sleep.

Sleep is so easy to underrate, especially when you have other things to do, or other things in your mind. We often say that if we lose a couple of hours by going to bed later than we know we should, we’ll just catch up on them the next day. Well, about that – believe it or not but this is actually impossible. That’s not how sleep works unfortunately. Once you’ve lost those hours from your day, they’re gone forever, you can’t make them up tomorrow or the next day – they’re gone.

You want to strive to get around eight hours of sleep. This is enough time for your body to recuperate and recharge its batteries for a brand new day. Failure to do so and you’ll find yourself feeling pretty darn rough, mentally and physically. So don’t do this to yourself – give your body what it needs to survive happily.

Here’s how.

Get the comfort

The mattress that you decide on is so important – not the bed, the mattress. This is what you’ll be lying on, and rolling over on, and stretching out on, so it needs to be supporting you in all the right places. The thing is, what works for you may not work for someone else. Some people like it hard and solid, while others will like it pretty squishy, so it all depends on your own personal preference. If you’re wondering what the best kind of mattresses are, then take a look on mattress.review to find a whole selection of the most popular.

Get the vibe

The room that you sleep in is also very important. You should walk in and instantly feel calm and soothed by your surroundings, as that is essentially what will allow you to drift off into your dreamworld peacefully. First of all, make sure that you get rid of all kinds of clutter so your space doesn’t look like a trash site. Try and reduce the craziness on the walls as that may cause a distraction when you’re trying to sleep by overstimulating the mind. And make sure that any lighting you do have on is a mere subtle glow to set the whole tone. Fairy lights are great for this as they not only look pretty, but create that air of fantasy and magic.

Now you have a couple of ideas as to how to get yourself some of that oh so important sleep, make sure that you take the time out to ensure you are doing all you can to encourage it. That way you’ll be able to take on the summer properly and turn up!
