Dollar Store Craft Shopping List

I am always trying to be frugal and getting stuff on the cheap. I have started to compiling a running craft store shopping list of supplies to look for and get at the dollar store as needed. Most of these items are just plain cheaper there than even Walmart, let alone the craft store (even with a 40 or 50% off coupon, which is a must!). I will update this list as I go. After moving back to the US from Canada, I have really missed Dollarama, where you could get soooo much crafting stuff. Most of my stuff is based on the only decent local dollar store, Dollar Tree. I would love to hear others ideas and comments!

  1. Good to know! I usually don’t think of the dollar store for stuff like that, but now I will!

  2. My favorite dollar store craft item is pipe cleaners. My kids love them. Also as I side note never buy rope and duct tape together. It sets off a red flag and records of the sale will be saved. At least that was the case at the discount store I used to work at. Horrible what the world is coming to.

  3. Thanks, I will add pipe cleaners to the list! Geez, I never thought of that, and I even have them listed in a row, LOL! It is really horrible to think that has to happen, and it probably does save so many lives.

  4. hot glue sticks. they are the small ones, but they are still only a $1 for a pack of them.

  5. Thanks! I added it to the list ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I literally went to the dollar store for the first time last week, I never knew I could get such awesome stuff for $1! Thanks for the list, I’m definitely bookmarking it for next time.

  11. Thanks all! You’d be suprised what you can find there. Sometimes they get closeouts, especially on books. You can find popular books for $1. @Rogene I bought a white mug and matching plate for my jewelry photography! It’s smart and cheap!

  12. Rogene Robbins says:

I love the dollar store for craft supplies. I always at least look even if I don’t need anything specific at the time because what they have changes. I’m trying to improve my food photography so I also check for new dishes and other props.

  13. Great list! Good to refer to. I love dollar store shopping!

  14. My favorite items for my kids are the sticker books, alphabet and number charts and Clifford music cds. They can amuse themselves with those items for a good few hours.

  15. You can get rhinestones at the dollar store?

  16. Not that I’ve seen. That would be awesome!

  17. Valerie says:

I’ve gotten the rhinestones at my Dollar Tree. I also look for beads (I make earrings and bracelets), I make up gift baskets for an easy gift. Just buy one of their totes or baskets, fill with baby items or household items, grab an appropiate card and bow and you have a quick and useful baby shower or household shower gift.

  18. Angila Lanier says:

You can buy anything on their website and have it shipped to your local store for free….The only catch you have to buy by the case…..so if it is on the site and not in the strore you can still get it..I.E….Rhinestones

  19. Paula Frerichs says:

I also purchase battery operated tea lights there. Good for when a flame isn’t safe.

  20. Thanks for making a go-to list ๐Ÿ™‚
I also buy the MANY different size storage containers for all the kids crafts! Also, available, tons of baskets, totes, cute and plain that I buy and use to store things or make up a cute giveaway basket ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Thanks for the updates ladies. I keep adding to the list ๐Ÿ˜€

  22. I can seriously spend at the dollar store! I’ve bought little craft birds, every seasonal item you can imagine, and those little moss covered things to make future wreaths. You name it I have it in my studio. I’m a little obsessed! I just made a raffia headpiece that looks like it came anywhere but the dollar store.
