Decor Changes to Cover Each Season of the Year

Your home doesn’t need to stay the same all the way through the year. To create the best decorative effect, you should make changes as the seasons pass.

Winter

Everyone loves winter. It’s a time of the year that’s best suited to changes the way your home looks. You can use plenty of pine and holiday colours like reds and greens. You should definitely use Christmas wreaths as they use both of those two colours while offering a natural element to the room.

Winter is cold though, so cozy, warm items are vital. You want to be as warm and comfortable as possible. So, add throws on the sofa to make your living room perfect for snuggling and getting away from the cold. You should put extra emphasis on the fireplace too, as this will be in use a lot.

Spring

Spring is all about lighter colours and nature. The heavy, warm blankets and throws that you used in winter can be put back in the cupboard as the days warm up. You should remove any items that make the room feel too dark and dull as well. Spring represents new life and bright colours, so keep this in mind.

These changes don’t have to be done all at once though. Spring doesn’t just arrive on a single given day. It’s something that tends to creep up on you. You start to notice the days getting longer and the sun feeling warmer on your skin. That means the changes to your home can be carried out at a more gradual pace too.

Summer

By the time summer comes around, your home needs to feel light, bright and airy. For me, one of the first things that summer requires is a change of window drapings. You should get rid of any dark, thick curtains as they will prevent the room feeling bright. You can buy cheap, thin curtains very cheaply, so use them instead.

When the sun is out, and summer is in full swing, you want to be spending a lot of time in the garden. It’s a good idea to break down the barriers between house and garden. Patio doors leading out into the garden are a must. Make sure you have tables and chairs outside too, so you can enjoy the weather.

Autumn

These changes are circular, so when autumn arrives, you should start reversing some of the changes to your home earlier. You can start making the home feel warmer and cozier. The colours palette of the house should change too. Browns, reds and oranges are the colours you want to focus on.

These colours offer you a palette that is in balance with the natural world outside. The leaves will start falling off the trees as summer passes through autumn towards winter. It’s a good time of year to play around with ideas and try new things as well, so don’t limit yourself too much.

The seasons change like clockwork, so your home should too. Now you know what to do, try out some of these ideas this year.
