I love the summer; it’s my favorite season. I love to spend time in the sun and enjoy the weather while I can. However, as we’re all aware, the summer sun can be brutal. It’s important to keep cool and refreshed as much as you can. Here are some of the techniques I used to keep cool in the summer.

Make Lemonade

I’ve been experimenting with lemonade recipes this summer! In fact, I found a fantastic list of twelve different varieties to try. Is there anything better on a hot summer’s day than sitting in the garden with a glass of lemonade and a good book? Set some time aside over the next week or so to try out your very own homemade lemonade. Have a look for unique recipes to inject a bit of excitement this summer.

Use Air Conditioning

One of the best ways to keep cool through the summer is to make use of air conditioning. I find my air conditioning unit to be a godsend, particularly when it gets really humid. It allows me to keep the house cool all the time if I need to. It means the bedroom stays cool and makes sleeping much easier. However, it does mean I need to keep on top of the unit and check it regularly. I recently had an AC replacement, so the new unit should last me comfortably through the summer. If you’re using the air con, just make sure you carry out regular maintenance checks on it.

Don’t Spend Too Long in the Sun

It’s vital to make sure you don’t spend too long in the sun when it’s hot. The temptation will be just to lie there and sunbathe all day. But this can be bad for you because you might experience heat stroke and dehydration. I like to split up my time in the sun and retire to the shade or the house every so often. This means the heat never becomes too much for me, and I can enjoy the sun all through the day.

Take a Dip

Perhaps the best remedy to combat the sweltering rays of the summer sun is to go for a swim. I pop to the local leisure centre, but some of you may have a swimming pool on your property. You might even consider getting one installed. I’ve found swimming to be very therapeutic, and a great way to cool off when it’s hot, not to mention the health benefits. We all need to be careful of overexposure to the sun and overheating. And a nice swim helps to counteract this problem.

Keep the Windows Open

I found the easiest tactic to keep cool is to go around the house and open all the windows and doors. This generates a through draught that brings some cool air into the home. This is particularly useful when the evening arrives because the weather is a lot cooler. So this means when you and the family come in from outdoors the house is nice and cool. I found this to be a highly effective way of keeping comfortable and refreshed.

As you can see, I did quite a few things in and around my home to keep myself and the family cool. The summer is a wonderful time of year, but we need to be careful with ourselves. It’s important not to spend too long in the sun and to look for great ways to keep cool.
