Are These Things Stopping You From Getting The Sleep You Deserve?

We all deserve a heavenly good night’s sleep. A sleep that we wake up in the morning from feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever the day ahead throws at us. However, this isn’t always the case. Are these things stopping you from getting the sleep you deserve?

Caffeine Overload

Maybe you’re overloading your body with caffeine, stopping yourself from having a decent night’s sleep. Caffeine is fine, providing you get the dosage right. 400mg is ok for a healthy adult, but anymore than that and you’ll be bouncing off the walls a lot longer than you need to. It’s also a good idea to stop drinking it in the early afternoon, so your body has a chance to calm down ready for bed later on. It can take a while for it to get out of your system. Bear in mind tea and fizzy drinks contain caffeine too, and not just coffee.

Old Mattress Problems

Maybe it’s been awhile since you replaced your mattress. The effectiveness can wear off after a while, so think back to when you bought yours. You can look at buying a mattress here if you need help. Bear in mind you may need to flip your mattress to keep it in good condition. There’s no one size fits all, so choose yours carefully!

Stressful Lifestyles

Leading a stressful lifestyle could actually stop you from getting quality sleep too. Maybe you’re grinding your teeth in the night without realizing it, or your head is buzzing with thoughts. Try to eliminate sources of stress from your life as best you can. You can also meditate to de-stress!

Noisy/Fidgeting Partner

If you sleep with a partner, they may be stopping you from sleeping. If they fidget a lot in their sleep or they’re very noisy, you might want to look into remedies to help them, so you can finally drift off peacefully. For things like sleep talking and walking, there can be more to it than meets the eye. Make sure you know how to handle it properly and start taking the steps to do something about it!

Too Much Stimulation

If you watch TV before bed and listen to upbeat music, you might be stimulating your body too much. You might be confusing your brain, making it think that it’s time to party when really it’s time to wind down. Make sure you have a cut off time for things like this, so you have plenty of time to wind down properly. To wind down, listen to relaxing music or read a book. You can also dim the lights so your body knows that it’s night time.
