Aging: How It Affects Our Skin

No one wants to get old. In fact, many of us try throughout our lives, to prevent and postpone the aging process. However, aging is a natural part of life, and is pretty much, unstoppable.

As soon as we are born, we are aging. It might sound like a somewhat depressing thought, but it’s true. All through life we are aging, it just so happens that once we get to a certain age, we wish we could stop ourselves from growing old.

While our entire body ages – bones, muscles, organs – the most delicate and aging-prone area is our skin. This is because our skin is exposed to all sorts of harsh weather conditions, including rain, wind and snow. As well as this, how quickly your skin will age, will also depend on your lifestyle and diet. Our everyday facial expressions, sleeping position and weight can also affect the aging of skin.

It might not be something you want to think about, but here is our guide to how aging affects our skin. Plus, some handy tips for how you can prevent aging and stay looking young for as long as possible.

Skin becomes slack

As we age, our skin begins to lose some of its elastic tissues, as well as its levels of collagen and elastin. These are the things that keep your face looking toned, and prevent your skin from sagging. But as we age, the loss of the skin’s elastic tissues, as well as the loss of collagen and elastin causes the skin to become slack.

While it isn’t a nice thought – your face hanging off, there are lots of ways you can prevent saggy skin. You can have sessions with a laser machine for skin tightening, use an anti-aging moisturizer or you could get Botox.

Skin becomes fragile

Not many people realize it, but as you age, just like the rest of your body becomes more vulnerable, so does your skin. If you are wondering what causes the skin to become more delicate, let us just explain.

As we age, the skin’s epidermis and the layer beneath it become flatter, making the skin more fragile and prone to damage. The flattening of the cells is the main cause of our skin becoming more easily damaged.

Skin gets lines

As we age, we begin to notice lines appearing on our skin. These lines are caused by day to day wear and tear of our skin – weather, facial expressions, etc.

While these lines aren’t visible when you are younger, they are still there, they just become more visible as you age. The reasons these lines become more visible as you age is because the skin loses its elasticity.

If age lines bother you, there are plenty of ways you can make them less visible. Skin fillers, specialist creams, and gels are ideal for treating any problems areas.

Aging, especially when it comes to your skin, might be hard to deal with, but it’s a part of life. If you are feeling down about the aging process, just remember that it’s a part of life and something that everyone goes through.
