5 Tips To Ensure Your Furniture Fits in With Any Interior Colour Scheme

Are you considering a complete living room revamp? Every five years or so we are faced with the prospect of redecoration, as our existing room scheme begins to look a little dull, and tired. There is a lot to think about when upgrading your living room. Are you going to tackle a new lighting scheme or floor covering? The colour scheme is usually the easiest decision to make, however; it can affect our choice of furniture. Particularly our three piece suite or sofa.

Buying a new suite is a big decision. It is likely to cost a lot of money and will have to last a lot of years. It will probably outlast two or three decorating projects, as the years pass by.

We are going to take a look here at some ways you can try and future-proof your suite by clever accessories or wise shopping.

Colour

Consider the colour of the material. Natural colours go well with almost any decor, whether it is in a modern, streamlined setting, or a country cottage. Imagine buying a lime green sofa; will it stand the test of time as your decor changes? Bright colours may not be the best choice.

Material

Whatever colour you are looking for, it is probably available in a multitude of different materials. Leather is timeless, and I can’t think of a common setting that it would not enhance. Leather simply oozes quality and luxury.

Many furniture pieces have beautifully ornate wooden frames. Wood is very versatile when considering different schemes. Should the time ever come that the cushioning needs to be re-covered to match a new setting, it will cost less and, therefore, wooden framed furniture has its benefits.

Covers

Buying a suite that has slipcovered sectionals is a clever move. Always check the manufacturers instructions but it is perfectly feasible to dye a light coloured suite to a darker colour, by placing the covers in a washing machine with the dye. There are obvious benefits for keeping your suite clean also. Replacement covers can be bought, or made using the material of your choice. Removable covers are a great idea.

Deception

Maybe you can’t afford a new suite. So what options are available to you? Throws have become extremely popular over the last five years, and almost every home has at least one. They come in a multitude of materials, colours, and designs. Covering your existing furniture with a throw is a cheap way to improve, or change its looks.

Soft Furnishings

Using scatter cushions will help break up the colour of your existing suit or add to the design of a throw. The beauty of cushions lies in their simplicity. They are easy to make and decorate to give your furniture lift to match your new decor.

Unfortunately, even by applying the tricks above, there is no guarantee you furniture will look good in all settings. Interior design isn’t an exact science, and every situation is different. I do hope, however, that you have found something to take away from my ramblings, that will help you to come to your decision a little more easily. Until next time my friends.
