As a mom, I know that my job is always to keep my children safe from any hard. That being said, when it comes to keeping kids safe, it isn’t the easiest of tasks – they have no fear and little understanding of danger.

I am a bit of a worrier, I always worry about my kids and what they are up to. To ensure that no matter what happens I know who to contact, there are certain numbers that I always keep on speed dial. Most people keep their nearest and dearest on speed dial, but not me, I keep all my emergency numbers there, just in case.

No matter how careful you are as a parent, at some point or another something will happen that will require you to make an emergency phone call. This might not be to 911, but it may be to poison control – kids get into everything, so it’s important that you have all the numbers you need, just in case.

Here is my guide to five numbers that I always have on my phone, and so should you.

  1. 911

Okay, so this one might be a little obvious, but it is still worth mentioning. Kids get into everything, especially young children. They eat things that they shouldn’t, stick their fingers into random objects – like VCR’s, and fall over more times than you could count.

No matter how much you try to protect your little ones at some point, you may need to call 911. So it’s crucial that you always have it saved in your phone – or the equivalent number for where you live.

  1. Pediatrician

Sometimes kids get sick or hurt, but it isn’t a medical emergency. However, they may need prompt medical care, which is why it is crucial that you keep your pediatrician’s number saved to speed dial.

If your child has hurt themselves or is unwell, you won’t want to have to spend ages rooting around for the number. You won’t be able to call it immediately so that you can get the help that your child needs as soon as possible.

As well as having your pediatrician’s daytime phone number, it’s also important to save the out of hours number as well. That way if your child becomes unwell during the night, you know who to call.

  1. Poison control

Kids have no understanding of what should and shouldn’t be put in their mouths, which is why every mom needs poison control on her speed dial. Poison control is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is a free number. It can be used to find out about what you should do if you or your child has eaten a chemical.

Poison control can look up what’s in it, will tell you how toxic the product is and will be able to advise you on what you need to do. They may say that you need to go to the hospital, or they may say to just monitor your child, but the number is worth having on your speed dial.

  1. Plumber

There is something about kids and water; they just love stuffing things down the toilet or the drain. This might be fun for them, but for us moms, it can cause a real problem. While not everything that kids shove down the drain will block it, the odd thing will, and when that happens you will need a plumber.

I honestly believe that all moms should have an emergency plumber on their speed dial, so that should a problem occur, you can call immediately.

  1. Locksmith

At some point or another, we all lock ourselves out of our homes or our cars. Yes, it can be irritating, but when our children are still inside, it becomes dangerous.

That’s why I have a locksmith on my speed dial, and you should too, so that if the worst should happen and you get locked out, you can get help quickly.

As a mom, I always want to do my best to protect and keep my kids safe, which is why I have these five crucial numbers on my speed dial. So that if anything were to happen, I could summon the help that I needed quickly.
