Bonjour!  Thinking of taking your family to France?  The weather’s great, the culture is rich, the people are friendly (mostly), and there’s just so much to see and visit.

Perhaps you’re just looking for fun activities.  Or planning to bathe in history and culture.  Or maybe you’re coming simply to enjoy the scenery.  Well, you truly are spoilt for choice.  But try to learn a few words of French before you arrive.  It certainly helps!

So without further ado, let’s talk through some wonderful places you can enjoy in France as a family:

But of course!  The city of lights.  The romance capital of the world.  Food from every country in the world.  Culture as far as the eye can see.  And did you realize that as one of the top tourist attractions in the world, Paris receives almost 50 million foreign visitors every year.

The problem is, there’s just so much to do!  It can be difficult to decide where to start, and how to make the most of your time.

Of course you must visit the Eiffel Tower.  Try to get all the way to the top if you can.  The queues can be a little long sometimes, but the view is unforgettable.

Or how about visiting Notre Dame?  The hunchback is long gone, but there’s plenty else to see.  In fact, due to the abundance of culture and history here, you could spend weeks just visiting the museums and architecture!

So be sure to plan your stay, and book your hotel well in advance, so that you see what you’re most interested in, for the time you have available.

The French Riviera

The French Riviera is where the rich come to play.  But don’t worry, everyone’s invited!  You might bump into a famous face, or five, here.  But at certain times of the year that’s far more likely.

Why?  Because the Cannes Film Festival every year comes here every year.  Hollywood glitz and glamour on the French coast.  What could be better!

Mont Saint-Michel

Just off the coast of Normandy you’ll find this small island.  It’s full of well kept medieval structures, including the Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel.  This abbey was built by monks in 708 AD and is still standing together.  Only a little worse for wear.

And while you’re in the area, be sure to make the most of the Normandy countryside.  It’s a lush landscape with remarkable scenery. You can find plenty of lovely villas to stay that will make the most of the views.

The Loire Valley

Right in the center of France, following along with the Loire River, you’ll find the Loire Valley.  And here you’ll discover amazing scenery and picturesque villages.  Plus vineyards with wine tastings, and a surprising quantity of castles.

Some of the most famous chateaux include:

  • Chambord
  • Amboise
  • Rivau
  • Chinon
  • Chenonceau

They still stand well to this day, and receive tourists.

Strasbourg

You’ll find Strasbourg right on the border of France and Germany.  It’s the capital city of the Alsace region of France.  And it’s an area with deep ties to French history, and now is host to the European Court of Human Rights and also the Council of Europe.  And due to its location, you’ll find an interesting mix of French and German architecture.
