Home renovation is fun because there’s always something to do. You’ll always have a room that can be done up and decorated in a specific way. Today, I’m turning my attention to the living room. More importantly, I’m going to tell you how you can turn your old living room into a modern masterpiece!
Use Simple Colours
Gone are the days when you’d use lots of whacky colours to decorate your house. Instead, the focus has shifted to a more simple approach. If you walk into any new house and step inside the living room, you’ll find the colour scheme to be quite basic. It’s usually a mix of whites and blacks. Simple colours that have a big effect. It’s very minimalistic, but that’s the modern way of doing things. Seriously, give yourself some simple white wallpaper, dotted with a bit of black/grey here and there, and your living room will look super chic.

Laminate Flooring
I challenge you to find me a new-build home that has carpet in the living area! You just don’t tend to see it anymore. Carpets are a thing of the past; it’s all about laminate flooring now. Laminate flooring looks sleek and a lot more stylish. If you have carpet, I can promise your room will feel transformed if you switch it for laminate flooring. It will make your home look beautiful. The great thing about it is that you can always put down a rug or two. So, you get a bit of a carpet feel, but still maintain the style from the laminate flooring.
Ditch Your Curtains
It’s been a long time since curtains were considered a ‘must have’ in the house. These days, people are turning their attention to blinds. They’re a much more modern alternative to curtains and will improve the look of your living room. If you want to go for that new, contemporary style, you have to ditch your curtains. Get rid of them and buy some fresh new blinds instead. Generally speaking, all blinds will look modern. But, you can get some that look even more modern than others. The best thing about blinds is that they can allow more light into your room. In my opinion, this is a very modern trend. Having your rooms filled with natural light makes them look cleaner and fresher. It just looks new!

Fill It With Modern Things
Obviously, if you want a modern living room, it has to be filled with modern things. This means you’ll have to chuck out any old furniture and bring in some new stuff. Leather sofas are a popular option for modern households at the moment. But, you may also want to turn your attention to coffee tables. A contemporary coffee table can bring the entire room together as one. And, don’t forget about other stuff too, like lights and entertainment systems. You have to have a flat screen TV or your living room will look super outdated.
Follow these four tips and you’ll soon have a brand new living room. The best thing is, you can do all of this by yourself, it makes the perfect DIY project!
