Many of us have a garage that we’re not taking full advantage of. Perhaps there is no real need to park our car inside it, or we prefer to use it as a home storage area. Perhaps we have never fully addressed repairs or tidiness. We may avoid going inside unless absolutely necessary! Whatever the current state of our garage, there are ways we can improve it. Most people find themselves remarkably short on space and can be amazed how much they are actually wasting. If we are fortunate enough to have a garage then using it effectively can give our home a new lease on life! A Home Office
More of us than ever before now choose to work from home. Even if it is not our full-time occupation, there are often times when we need to complete additional work at home. Finding a peaceful area where we can work and concentrate can be difficult amongst the chaos of family life! But with a few simple additions, a garage can be a great home office. We may have the room to add a small table or desk. Overhead garage doors can be made secure enough for us to keep a computer and valuables inside. With a comfy chair, a few pot plants, and our favorite music, this can quickly become a study the whole family can use.
A Guest Room
A guest room in the garage may seem a strange suggestion at first. But with good ventilation and heating, a garage can be very comfortable and private. We can add a pull out sofa bed or a more permanent fixture, depending on how often we plan to use it. Many families also get additional plumbing for the garage to enable them to wash the car. This can easily be converted for an extra sink or shower! Be sure to double check planning permission in your local area. But you might be surprised by few changes need to be made to make the garage a comfortable living space.
A Games Room
The addition of a pool table, board games, or a darts board can transform a dull and dismal garage into the heart of the home! Hosting friends can take additional space and the garage shouldn’t be overlooked. We can add comfortable furniture, throws, and music to make the space fun and inviting. A room fragrance and heating system can also make the space feel more integrated into the rest of the home. The additions can be as extravagant or as modest as we like. A big screen television may be great for sporting events and movies. But a pack of cards and board games can also make the garage a fun space for all ages.
An Indoor Garden
Many people are disappointed by their small gardens or yard spaces. It has become more popular than ever to grow your own herbs and vegetables. But it is common to be limited by space. A garage can provide an opportunity to grow plants and herbs that thrive in warmer areas or are not too reliant on sunlight. It can become both a peaceful and useful part of the house!
