In writing this blog, I’ve come across some impressive DIY ideas that almost anybody can do with the right mindset and a dash of creativity. But, there are some things you just shouldn’t mess with! There are a lot of dangers in the modern home that can cause serious accidents, and  I would hate for that to happen to any of my readers! So, I thought I would take a small time out and list some areas that you should always leave to the professionals. And here they are!

Electrics

Electricity is a vital component of the modern home, and without it, I wouldn’t be writing this right now! The trouble is that we just don’t see our electricity for what it is. We just plug into a socket and don’t think twice about it. We forget that in every home there is a complicated series of wires that runs throughout the place behind the walls and under floorboards. So, whenever we bang a nail in the wrong place, we could do some damage. If this has ever happened to you, please call a professional. If you don’t know how to fix it, then you will only make your problems worse and, potentially, end up being injured.

Plumbing & Leaks

Plumbing is another area that involves complex installation and handling. Those pipes might be hardy enough to last through a harsh winter or two, but they might not be up to a drill bit straight through the middle of them! If you have an accident, the most you should do is turn off your water supply and ring for an expert. If lots of damage has been caused, then look at hiring a company like Restoration Eze. Water damage firms can help you reduce the havoc that a broken pipe or utility can cause, which includes damp and mold formation. Acting fast will give you a better chance of saving you possessions, and reduce the likelihood of health issues being caused.

Roofing

No matter how comfortable you are with heights, you should always avoid doing any work on your roof unless you have been trained. One-third of all construction accidents occur from roof falls – and that figure only includes professionals! The simple fact is that anything can happen up there. There could be a loose tile or slippery moss. A gust of wind could catch you while you are in a delicate position. None of these things will be your fault, but they do happen more often than you might think. So, please, don’t do any roofing work and hire a reputable company in your locale to do it instead.

Gas

The chances are that your home will have many things that run on gas. And, unfortunately, it’s one of the areas of your home that can easily be damaged. Why? Because whenever you upgrade a kitchen, for example, you will often move particular appliances out of the way. And when you do, you can damage them. Bearing in mind that carbon monoxide poisoning kills over four hundred people every year, you need to be very careful. Gas just looks for a way to escape from wherever it is trapped, and it won’t take long for damage to be done. So, the next time you move your oven to fit in some floor tiles, make sure you have it checked by a pro before using it again.

Comments

  1. I put my concern on gas. Lets say carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide and chlorine are some of dangerous gases that can infiltrate into home. Those require detector to detect their existences. Only detector can.

  2. I like what you said about roofing. Although there are some minor repairs that I feel okay about doing on a roof, for the most part I would stick with the pros as well. It is not reasonable to try and fix major repairs on your roof by yourself. Especially with the safety risks. Thanks for sharing.
