For us adults, walking around the house feels quite safe, we know where everything is, we know how to handle the stairs and doors with ease, but for our little ones this isn’t always the case! Kids are more vulnerable to getting hurt in the house because of their small size, so here are 3 things you can do to help them be safer in the house.

Install Baby Gates

Baby gates are small, removable gates that you can put in doorways and stairwells to prevent your little ones from going places that could be dangerous for them! They’re relatively self-explanatory, they physically block access to an area and can only be opened by operating the child lock that is found on them. These are a must have, especially if you have toddlers. Place them on the bottom and top of your stairs to prevent them from going on the stairs without your supervision, tumbles can occur if small children are left on the stairs to their own devices, so baby gates remove them being able to get on the stairs on their own because they cannot open them! Companies like Walmart and Target sell a wide range of baby gates so you can browse around and find one that suits you. Do remember that the gate does have to fit what you’re trying to block, so always measure it out first.

Make Sure Their Rooms Are Clean

This one may seem obvious, who doesn’t keep their child’s room nice and clean? But it isn’t the form of clean as you think, it needs to be clean from microbes, bacteria, and mold that might be lurking around. All of these things can cause illness, the severity of which does vary from species to species but regardless it is still something you want to avoid! This can usually done by purchasing an air purifying from the likes of HomeDepot, however there could be occasions where something more heavy duty is required. Dry ice blasting is quickly becoming the best way to get rid of microbes and mould that may be living on your walls, by jettisoning dry ice at your walls it kills anything that might have been present there, leaving a lovely clean environment for your child!

Child-Proof Any Sharp Ends

Bumps and scratches are always bound to happen because kids can find themselves in some silly places sometimes! However, the more serious ones can come from things like table and units edges. For toddlers, these are sharp objects that stand at head height and can be quite dangerous if they run into them. Toys R Us and other companies sell foam guards for the sharp edges of tables and units. All they do is cover the sharp end with foam or plastic depending upon which one you buy. Even though this won’t stop your little one from running into tables and chairs, it makes the aftermath of it much safer and easier to deal with.

If you follow these simple pieces of advice, your house will be a clean, safe environment for your child to grow up in! Not only that, but it means you’ll have to spend less time worrying about your child hurting themselves, something all of us hate doing! If you’re looking for ways to specifically make your house safer for toddlers, read this for some good ideas!
