3 Tips for Choosing your Commercial Flooring

Thinking about remodeling or building your commercial workspace? Maybe it’s time to upgrade your commercial space, or maybe you’re even embarking on the exciting adventure of DIY’ing or contracting a brand new workspace to expand your business. Whether your workspace is a workshop, an office environment, or a showcase, you need to put careful consideration into what kind of flooring you choose. Your flooring is going to get a lot of wear and tear, and it needs to be something that fits your needs and your budget.

Take Measurements of your commercial space

Proper measurements are vital to purchasing or even making a financial decision on your commercial flooring. For example, you may want to go with a costly option but have a smaller budget. This works well for small workspaces, but if it is a large space, and financials are a consideration, you may want to find the best bang for your buck. The first step is to either have a contractor come out and measure your commercial space, or make sure you do it properly. Do it in advance and, if you are doing it yourself, make sure to check it twice.

Choose the type of flooring that will best suit your business’ needs

There is such a wide variety of options. A workshop, for example, may benefit best from a sturdy garage floor coating so that scrapes and dings won’t do any permanent damage. Lvt (luxury vinyl tile) is a cost-effective and customizable option. It is make to withstand commercial settings, while not breaking the bank. You can choose lvt that looks natural, such as hardwood flooring, or abstract designs which are perfect for a showroom or setting that customers will be in. Think outside the box about not only your business needs, but your average customer and what will attract them best. A perk to lvt is that it is easy to clean and maintain, using a 2 bucket system to clean. Other popular flooring options include tile, marble, hardwood, cement, or carpet. Make a pros and cons list of your top 2 or 3 options, and decide from there. Once it’s in, it’s much harder to replace so doing your homework and planning ahead of time will save you countless dollars and time in the long run.

Decide if you’re going to DIY or hire a contractor

While both are viable options, certain flooring is best left to the professionals. I, personally, love a DIY challenge, but if it is a large workspace or you are on a time crunch, then you may want to hire a pro. Do your research. There are a ton of DIY tutorials out there, even off the wall DIY floors, that can help you install most flooring options. If you have it in your budget and are not inclined to DIY your flooring, then hire a pro. Make sure you research, ask colleagues for recommendations and read reviews. Get a quote and make sure there is a contract and that the contractor is insured should you choose this approach.

Whatever option you go with, enjoy your new commercial flooring, knowing it’s one of many improvements to come to your thriving business!
