The good news is that even if the room is a little on the small side, you can still use it to create a home library. Okay, so you might not be able to match those big, beautiful libraries that you see at home shows, but you can still design a fantastic reading space. Believe it or not, when it comes to creating a library, it’s not about the size of the space. The most important thing is how you use the room that you have.

Think floor to ceiling bookcases, cases that open like doors, and books drawers. It might take a little creativity to get it right, but it is possible. The most important features a home library can have, big or small, are lots of comfortable, cozy areas for reading. While sofas are good for this, adding a bean bag chair or some giant floor cushions can work just as well. A couple of coffee tables with lamps on are all essential, as are a few blankets and cushions dotted around. It’s not just about the books; a home library should be super comfortable and inviting. With this in mind, if you’re going to decorate the walls, make sure to opt for a warm-hued paint.

If life is a little stressful at times, the perfect use of your spare room is transforming it into a relaxation space. If you struggle to get any peace and quiet anywhere else in your home, use your spare room to give yourself some down time. We all need a break now and then, even us moms. We all need a tranquil space to relax and unwind in, so why not make your spare room that space?

To give the room a calming and relaxing vibe, it’s crucial that you get the decor spot on. Decorate the walls in a relaxing shade – a natural inspired hue could work well, and ensure that the space is as cool and calm as possible. This means no bright overhead lighting, as this can increase stress. Instead, install a dimmer switch so that the lights can be turned down. As well as some comfy furniture, think about investing in a shiatsu massage cushion for the space. After all, there’s no better way to de-stress than with a massage, right? Dot a few candles about – these can be fake candles if you’re worried about safety. As well as an incense burner, a CD player, and a few relaxing CDs, and you can create the ultimate tranquil space.

To create a home movie room for your family, you’ll need a large TV or a pull-down screen and projector, as well as a good quality surround sound system. If you can’t afford to pay full price for these, you can always pick them up second-hand on sites like eBay. You’ll also need some comfortable seating, blackout curtains, and a mini snack bar areas with a fridge.

So there you have it, three great ideas for making the most of your spare room. These ideas may not be for you, but they should, at least, have got you inspired.
